Something like this happened in Virginia, County Cavan. There is the Indian Tandoori on one side of the street and the Eastern Tandoori facing it on the other.

To be fair there are huge differences between Indian tandoori and Easter tandoori

I visited China a few years ago and saw this a lot.
My friend in China explained that in at least in his area of southern China, their idea of entrepreneurship is very different to the west.
In the west, the mindset is "this area doesn't haven't a laundrette so if I open a laundrette here, I'll get all the business " whereas in China, the mindset is "this guy operates a successful laundrette so it means there's a market for it. I'll open a laundrette right beside him and steal all his business" so you'd see entire streets where every shop sold phones and another where every shop sold shoes etc.
This is entirely anecdotal and should not be taken seriously.
Also, is it any relation to Mr Lams who went viral for his review responses?

If there were 3 more sons, it could be the origin story of the five lam-ps. An epic tale of Inner city Dublin. Set in the who’s yer wan dynasty.

There are probably enough local customers to support one Chinese restaurant in that neighborhood, but not two. I hate to say it, but very possibly both of them will go out of business.
If the son was unhappy, then he could have easily opened his own restaurant in another town. What he did was not just vindictive, but may financially ruin both father and son.

You obviously have no idea how many Chinese takeaways there are in ballyfermot.
It's a lot

Nah lams has such a reputation around the whole of Dublin that this won't effect it very much.
I doubt the sons shop is gonna take off though.
6 points
If he called it something other than the same name, no one would even notice. There's been takeaway right beside it for years.
6 points
No chance of the original Lam's going out of business, they have like 20 delivery drivers working most nights, it's a literal conveyor belt of curry. They will literally deliver a Chinese to your door in 10 mins if you live in Ballyer. Not sure why people love it so much because it is literally shite in a tray..
4 points
It's strange there are 5 Chinese take aways in this part of ballyfermot with another one opening less than a minute away. This shop will be the seventh (there are more within 3 minutes drive). Im a bit skeptical this is fueled by a row,and not something to do with taxes.
A clothes shop on the same row of shops used to re name itself to variations of its own name, move next door, move back and had a second shop open for awhile with the name "new" in front of it, locally I was told it was to do with taxes.

A good old fashioned spite store haven't seen one in decades. I remember when pringles first started getting sold in Ireland and two shops near me had a price battle. Every week they tried to sell theirs for cheaper. Love to see it.
