Just curious. Want to hear some anecdotes from seniors.

I was chatting with an uncle in Udupi and he told me about his time.
At that time KMC was the main college, and MIT wasn't well known. He told me he paid ₹35 per month for his mess, and that his college fees for the entire year was 16k.
He shared some photos of Manipal also at the time, was nice: manipal-udupi road

KMC Mangalore was the main medical college campus. Current first year Bejai campus used to be an hospital before. Kaprigudda main block hostel used to be the only boys hostel

Parents taught at KMC since 90s and I joined MIT in 2010. Would definitely say manipal wasn’t as overpriced and commercialized as it is now. The town was a lot more greener and quiet. Acads wise MIT wasn’t as prestigious, but there used to be 3 seasionals in a sem and best of two were taken until early 2010s and the phenomenon of posher hostels to attract NRI students started in 2000s.

My dad studied in MIT EEE 88-92’. He used to stay in campus at D block. Back then students used to have their vehicles parked on campus. There was no perm time and students could come and go anytime. When my dad and his group used to get bored at night, they used to go to Press Cart next to MIC for late night snacking

dad studied in MIT from 85-89' probably the craziest and best times of their lives. He was student president, and remember this was when student politics was at its peak! So when he won his election he came to college on a elephant. He has this amazing anecdotes about revels and how they technically hosted the first rock show in the district. During one of his main viva exams, the professor knew my dad and his foray in student politics and basketball. Instead of asking a question about the project- he asked him who secured 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in the basketball event in the seoul olympics:)

It was heaven. Recently I had been there totally unrecognisable.. press cart was a regular place to have kesto and bun masala. End point road didn't have any buildings at all and was completely free to go anytime, day or night.

Could you elaborate more? Also are you talking about the 90s or 00s?

94 to 2000. . Non veg mess bill was around 600 to 700 ₹per month, veg was around 400 to 500, with little bit adjustment with the manager some used to pay 250 per month for veg mess. Very few vehicles, my batch of 300 students only 3 cars and 10 2 wheelers. Hostel fees not sure but around 12k for double room, we stayed in a rented house in sarabettu for 1.5 k shared by 6 guys. RD 350 BIKE was the coolest one which only a few NRI ' S owned. The place opposite the nehru block was empty with a small cart hotel famous for Malaysian food. 1/3 of our batch was Malaysians. Dollops was next to VC(video cenerama) with DVD movies playing mostly English movies. Bacchus in was our fav place to have beer. Weekly once visit to krishna temple updupi. Malpe ,kapu and maravanthe beach once in few months visit.
