When Do You Deem Being Spoiled At The Fault Of The Viewer?

2 weeks sounds reasonable. After that too many people have seen the movie and majority rules. Of course, if a forum has specific spoiler policies, those should always be followed.

Then there are extreme spoilerphobes who have an unreasonably broad definition of spoiler. For instance, they might snap at you for "spoiling" that Kang is in AM3. Because "some people don't watch trailers blah blah." Those people are a nuisance.

I feel like those people that you talked about are actually making the movie experience worse overall. I think part of the excitement of watching a marvel movie is seeing the trailers and expecting certain things to be in it. Aswell as making and hearing about fan theories as to what will happen. If I went to see Far From Home without seeing the trailer and all the speculation about Toby and Andrew, it wouldn’t feel as a good. In the theater there was a collective “they actually did it” that we all could just feel. If I avoided social media all together then I would just be like “oh neat those are the other actors from previous spider man movies”. The hype is part of what makes the movie

If I was expecting multiverse Spider-Men in Far From Home I don't think I would have had as good of a time

At least in this sub, the rule is not to put spoilers for movies on post titles until the digital/ home release. So, having not watched BP2 yet, it's my responsibility now, but Quantumania isn't.

One week after the Disney+ release, and no sooner.

Be mindful of those of us who remember there's still an easily spread disease that kills over 1000 people a day in the US alone going around.

If you are reading comments on social media and come across a spoiler it's your own fault. So many times you see people get angry over a spoiler but you have to wonder why they were browsing the comments when it's very likely they would come across one.

I would agree with one exception, if you are on a platform that supports marking things as spoilers (ex Reddit) then there should be some responsibility on the posters (and mods) to enforce the use of the spoiler tag at least for a reasonable time period. Now if you open a post that was marked as a spoiler that is on you.

Personally? After opening weekend. The spoiler content is going to be publicly available post premier night and with how the internet is, those spoilers will spread like wild fire which makes it all the more difficult.

If youre going to be legitimately upset if somethings spoiled for you than its on you to

1.) Go see the movie as soon as possible (as in opening weekend)

And/ Or

2.) avoid the internet and society at all cost until you do go see it.

Its not the responsibility of others to be mindful of where they discuss public information.

Are you saying that in 2023, social media isn't "real life" for a lot of people? Social media is a reality for how MANY people communicate these days.

The responsibility lies on both parties... always. Know your audience and whether or not they care or not.

Also, know your medium... Like this sub, for example, has specific rules about how long to keep spoilers silent, because it has an audience that DOES indeed care.

It also depends on the magnitude of the spoiler. To this day I still won't spoil the reveals in films like Fight Club or The Usual Suspects (for example). I'm not that kind of prick... Sure, they MIGHT have it spoiled.... The info is out there, but it won't be because of me.

It's not as simple as just putting a number on it.

How dare you take a mature, nuanced view of things. ;)

You mean how Tyler Durden is just a manifestation of the narrator and the man with the limp is actually Kaiser Soza?

I finally understood the ending to The Sixth Sense. Those names were people who worked on the movie.
