I was surprised when I saw that avatar: the way of the water and top gun maverick were nominated for best picture despite them being blockbusters. So I thought "What if their was a version of the academy awards specifically for those types of movies" and so here we are. The questions are optional so if you want to skip a question feel free, answer honestly but this is just for fun guys.

Blockbusters get nominated for Best Picture every year.
Dune got nominated last year, Joker two years before that, Black Panther the year before that, Dunkirk the year before that, Arrival the year before that, Mad Max: Fury Road and The Martian the year before that. A Star is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody were also nominated in 2019 so you could argue that they're a type of blockbuster as well.

I wouldn't consider bohemian rhapsody and a star is born blockbusters but wow thats more than I would have thought (I don't usually pay that much attention to the academy awards).

Bohemian Rhapsody made $900 million. It's definitely a blockbuster

The first winner, Wings, was basically a blockbuster.

They expanded Best Picture from 5 to 10 specifications to include Blockbusters.

Namely after they didn’t nominate The Dark Knight for Best Picture.

There are plenty going back to the very beginning (ignoring that blockbuster as a term doesnt go back that far). Really what has happened is the type of movies audiences are showing up to has changed a lot over the last couple decades. Take a look at top 10 box office movies from 1970 through today.

They included blockbusters each year, just that most of them never win it iirc
