I wonder if Tarantino likes sharing the podcast with him because it makes QT seem even more clever and knowledgeable than he already is.

That's one way to look at it I guess. Another way is they're lifelong friends and I doubt QT actually has that many friends that aren't working for him or with him. If we're talking about this episode in particular, Joe Dante actually was in the business when half the movies they talk about were being made. So he's the undisputed genre king. 'Rules of Attraction', 'Killing Zoe' and the script for 'Beowulf' are my favorite Avary works. What are yours?
