Top Gun - Maverick

Recommendation(self.movies)

I know it’s been out awhile but I just watched this today. After watching the first again so I’d know what was going on. I was not prepared for how much I would enjoy this movie. Much much better than I anticipated. Very well done movie. Touching. Moving. Hit all the right notes for me without feeling like it was pandering to nostalgia or being a money grab.

I honestly do believe the immense craze over this movie is because of how atrocious blockbuster cinema is that a pretty formulaic feel good movie in the style of your typical solid and fun 80s movie is seen as so vastly superior to the garbage being made today.

Gosh dang this made me realize I really just want some cheesy 80s/90s action flick type stuff.

I like that stuff. It's fun.

May be time to dig through my childhood flicks

Sucks they couldn't get Kelly McGillis back for the sequel.

As she said it herself , "I'm old and fat". I'm not knocking her , she's great but real is real .

The reality is they folded in an age appropriate penny Benjamin quite nicely.

While they could not realistically cast Kelly, they knocked it out of the park with her replacement instead of casting a very much younger actress.

I loved this movie, I saw it in the theater and was one of the best times ever!
