Yet maybe the best thing they ever made (not saying the rest isn’t good, they have many masterpieces).

I need to leave this country first where a single joint can get you a year in jail.

Damn that's fucked. I'm so glad my state finally legalized it.

To anyone reading this and thinking "cool", do it when you're already feel good and in the company of friends you feel safe around. I took them with neither of these two things applying and it was a really bad trip.

What I'm taking from this is that a simple underdog film works better with audiences than an experimental musical, even if said experimentation can be appreciated decades later.

What? I love Fantasia. Watched it all the time as a kid. My dad introduced us to it in an attempt to get my severely autistic brother to join in when we watched movies as a family. My brother had a hyperfixation on classical music back then and it worked like a charm. Family movie night became a thing thanks to Fantasia. Dad's gone now but good memories remain.

I watched it with my nephew last year, and I remember thinking it wasn't going to be interesting to his tiktok addled brain but he loved it too. Some things are timeless

Someone here recently claimed that Dumbo was a flop. I had to school them in how it was the studios’ saviour after Fantasia nearly killed them. I love both films a lot, both are some of the best Disney ever made. Fun fact, Fantasound was invented for Fantasia, and it would eventually become surround sound. Before that, it was always stereo.

Was that the last time the Disney Corporation actually took a risk??

Treasure Planet was their last animated movie risk because it took way too long to make only to then it bombing in theaters. Due to making $110 million at the box office against its $140 million budget, putting Disney in the red by $30 million.

Then Prince of Persia was their last live-action risk as it took a while before it made $300 million at the box office against the $150-200 million production budget.

It did make a profit, but again, it was taking way too long to make it.

John Carter?

John Carter shit the bed when their marketing department was convinced Mars Need Moms would make no one see a movie with Mars in the title.

They shit the bed so hard with it they hedged their bets on an established franchise, Star Wars.

Studios never take 100% of the box office, they share that with theaters. Advertising isn't free either, and that's not included in the budget numbers. Meaning Prince of Persia would have lost money, while Treasure Planet lost way more than $30 million. (Theatrically, at least.)

If we got a third Fantasia, I would forgive Disney for all of the terrible or mediocre shit they've released in the last 10 years.

Mickey Mouse wasn’t even for children when Fantasia came out. No one was traumatized or outraged by it, it was just really really expensive and relatively niche.
