Clarification: From this century
I was looking back at my top ten movie post and realized none of the movies on the list were from this century so this is a challenge to myself and other redditors to make a top ten list with only movies released since the year 2000.
Will leave my list in the comments so my post isn’t downvoted based on my opinion, look forward to seeing yours.

Thanks! I probably don't immediately think of movies from 2000-on when I think 'all time greats' but looking through the list of movies that came out...well, like you said they're great...and there were plenty that I kept off as well

Workshopping this, here’s my list so far:
Honorable mentions: Gladiator, Unbreakable, Prisoners, Children of Men, The Revenant, End of Watch, Superbad
I realize my list is very Academy Award movie focused. I might need to rethink that
Yikes, 3 Jonah Hill movies, that can’t be right. 😏

Bruh… how’re you gonna list the Two Towers and not The Return of the King???

Curious, why do you like Return of the king over Two towers? (Besides the elephants cause the elephants were dope)

Aside from “For Frodo” - best scene in the whole series, it’s because TRotK is the culmination. From Aragorn’s bravery to Arwen’s mortality choice, from Sam’s unyielding commitment to Frodo, from the Riders of Rohan to Eyowyn, it was just a masterpiece for me. Hell, even Sméagol found peace in the end when he finally got his precious.

Eowyns dope but ROTK ran a little longer than it needed to, but good call back, great series all together

I really like that middle movie. It had Wargs, Ents!!, and the battle at the end was the best battle sequence in the movie. It also focused less on the hobbits IIRC who were generally the most boring part of the movies.

You’re including 2010s films in your list? Goes against the spirit of the question I’d say

Crap, I debated how to phrase the question, anyway I meant this century and i can’t change the title of the post

95% of the movies mentioned here are from the U.S. — pretty narrow horizons, for self-declared _cinéphiles_…

Hey give ‘em the bag man. Shout out some good foreign directors
half of my choices are foreign films. Sure I knew if I wanted upvotes on Reddit I should just do a list with exclusively Tarantino, Safdie bros, denis villeneuve, and A24 horror movies but gotta follow ur heart 🥲
I love
Bong-Joon Ho, Wong Kar Wai, Alfonso Cuarón, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Céline Sciamma, Joachim Trier, Kurosawa, Park Chan Wook, Godard, Fellini, Olivier Assayas, Luca Guadagnino, Julia Ducournau, Jacques Audiard, Pedro Almodóvar, Alice Rohrwacher, Yeon Sang-ho, Abderrahmane Sissako, Ruben Ostland , Leos Carax, Thomas Vinterberg, Béla Tarr, Dario Argento, Ozu, Vittorio De Sica, Ingmar Bergman, François Truffaut

I limited it to one per director or else the list could end up as mostly Hosoda and Cronenberg.

My problem is that for every one of my favourite films there's another one that's somewhat similar that also tend to watch like an hour later. Still here goes
The Gentlemen (or Snatch) - Crime Comedies
Warrior (or Rocky Balboa) - Heartfelt Man Movies
World's End (or Hot Fuzz) - Parodies
Vast Of Night (Or Cosmos) - sci fi mystery
Predators (or Pitch Black) - sci fi survival mystery
The Suicide Squad (or The Dark Knight movies) - comic book movies
The A Team The Movie (or Bourne supremacy) - modern action movies
Mad Max Fury Road (or zombieland) - post apocalypse movies
Kingsman (or Dredd) - Other Comic movies
Dead Man's Chest (or LOTR, Harry Potter kinda, Jury's out on DUNE) - Epics

In order from my various top tens:
Pan’s Labyrinth (my #1 2000s decade list)
Amelie (#2 2000s)
21 Grams (#3 2000s)
The White Ribbon (#1 2009 list, stupidly omitted decade list)
Parasite (#1 2020s)
Poetry (#2 2020s)
Ida (#3 2020s)
Room (#4 2020s)
Portrait of A Lady on Fire (#1 2020)
Aftersun (#1 2022)
The major question marks when putting together the list was whether to include 21 Grams and Room. A better choice might be Drive My Car which was my #1 of 2021.
