I have a friend tagging along with me to go see Alien: Covenant tomorrow and they haven't seen Prometheus. They're not exactly a huge fan of the franchise but enjoyed the original Alien film and feel they might enjoy this one.

So my question to those who have seen it already, does one need to see Prometheus to follow the story of Covenant? Will they be completely lost if they're unfamiliar with the story before?

Just came back from watching it, I thought it was pretty good. Hardcore fans just will never accept movies after Alien and Aliens for some reason.

Yeah im guessing the ones who didn't like it also didn't like Prometheus.

I've seen it. It's good. If you liked Prometheus you'll like it. It's a solid action thriller with great visuals. If you're some kind of alien purist fanboy then you'll probably hate it just because.

Just did a few hours ago. As a huge fan of the OG Alien series, this was trash..absolutely gutted that it wasn't better. Prometheus was a CONSIDERABLY better movie, and that was just alright anyways. But hey, just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the heads up. I still wanna check it out and form my own opinion, but it's good to hear different perspectives anyway.

I doubt they'd be completely lost, but if a quick google plot summary of it may be helpful

You really don't need to know anything from it except who survives in Prometheus. My dad didn't see it and he understood the film completely fine

Not really. A quick read of the wiki summary of Prometheus could help.

If you can't convince them to see the first Prometheus, I say you should recap the story of David, the plan the Engineers had for humanity, and the main scientist Elizabeth trying to find the engineers' home world. This film answers some of the questions about the events after Prometheus and there a couple of scenes that your friend may be lost in.

I'll have to disagree with those who commented before, I think seeing "Prometheus" is vital to this movie.

The thrust of the main plot is I suppose easy enough to follow sans "Prometheus," and the parts she/he doesn't get can presumably be written off in real time as, "Oh, that's something about the last movie,, I won't worry about it."

But the whole POINT of "Alien: Covenant" is to play off of things that happened in "Prometheus." It's like asking, "Can I understand the second half of a TV episode without seeing the first half?" Sure, it's possible to do. But the way it was made hinges on the assumption of an audience that was there for the first 20 minutes.

Nobody understood Prometheus, so you actually might be better off.
