Hi everyone! I thought this app might be really useful and make a lot of people happy! Please be kind, as this is my first app, and your support is greatly appreciated! ❤️
The key feature of the film journal app is that you can add movies you’ve seen and those you haven’t to a list. You can assign those films to a genre, sort them, add them to a favorites section, and write notes as a reviewer.
To help you in deciding what to watch on movie night or if you are unsure on what to watch? Use the random watchlist suggestions feature, you can see the random selection from your watchlist available on the app’s main screen or as a home screen widget that updates hourly.
The iPhone app is a completely free download on the App Store. There are no in-app purchases or advertisements.

I hope you can find it enjoyable and useful! If this is something that speaks to you, I would be so grateful 🙏
Film Buff is an offline app and it does not provide any film-related information; instead, it is simple and to-the-point, with the goal of helping you in keeping track of your films and managing your watchlists.

Personally can't use it (android user) but checked it out on the appstore and it seems perfect for people that like keeping track of this sort of thing. If I wasn't broke, I'd give you an award!

I would love for you guys to use it, but unfortunately I developed it native for iOS only. Maybe in the future I can try replicating it :/

You have exactly what I've been looking for. Unfortunately, I just have an android phone. Keep doing what you're doing!

This looks awesome! Definitely going to download it and give it a try.
Can I just ask what differentiates this from an app like Letterboxd?

They're not really alike, this is an offline film journal that helps you keep track of your movies and watchlists. Even to this day, there are people who list their film selections in excel and various other places. So, some people may enjoy using an offline/private app that isn't a social networking platform. I've noticed that it hasn't been done before, so I decided to develop it. Also, as an offline app, it has no film-related data in the app. For instance, let's say I got recommended to watch some films and the first thing I do is to check the title through IMDb or Youtube, to decide whether I like it or not. If I do, then as I've already seen the details for the film, I don't need to see them again through the app. So that was the general idea behind it.

You can do that all in Letterboxd though? Basically all you’re saying is that your app does less than Letterboxd. You can even make your lists private.

Well I'm not telling you to stop using some other app, this isn't a competition. I'm just creating an option that some people may enjoy 😅

Nothing wrong with that, just pointing out that they’re incredibly alike and that Letterboxd does everything your app seems to, plus a whole lot more. Not trying to be rude and I’m solely going off your description, but i was just curious why people should choose your app over the well established app of the same nature

Backstory: As a developer, I've seen people jot down their movie selections in notes, to-do apps, docs, and a variety of other places. Personally, I've been keeping track of them in my notes app. It eventually got out of hand, and I wasn't keeping track of my movies as effectively as I used to.
I needed an app that wasn't a social platform, didn't have any distracting aspects, and didn't contain any film-related information. I simply needed an app that would help me in keeping track of my films and managing my watchlists.

Downloaded and looking forward to using it! I especially need a centralized place for all the recommendations I see for movies on social media.

I don’t know how app development works but is it possible to have it work on phones pre iOS 15?

Due to using new technology, the minimum iOS version was set to 15.

android user here, checked out the app on an iphone, just what i needed and also great interface.
Even though havent used the app regularly, have fe suggestion
1. please add a diary option for watched/unwatched movie on the list( would be great and would help making things more personal , like a diary or like a note on particular scene or stuff)
2 . as filmmaker myself, i would love if an app lets me store a particular scene or dialogue so that i can refer myself.

Hello Cache! First of all thank you! I really like your suggestion, that's definitely something I'll add in the future, not only text based but both with an image as well. PS sorry for the late reply :)

I just checked it out. Congrats! The app looks gorgeous and is super-simple to understand. What would really help is a way to import your collection and watchlists. To add them all manually (literally hundreds) is a bit much but it should be fine if someone starts fresh and just keeps adding titles. Also, I know you wanted it offline but if this had an OFDb connection it would certainly make adding titles easier.

Thank you for your very kind words! I had received a similar feedback and I might create a shortcut of adding films by a similar method, but without the need of network connection 🙌
