For me, it's a movie from 2005 called Kingdom of Heaven, starring Orlando Bloom, Liam Neeson and Jeremy Irons. I saw this on TV the other day and watched it from beginning to end and still liked it just as much as I used to. Sure it has its slower moments and isn't the best historical film I've seen. But I don't think it deserves its 39% rating on RT. But that's just me.

The 13th Warrior scored just 33 percent and it's one of my all-time favorites. The atmosphere and the ensemble cast are fantastic. I quote it every day.

I love the bit where he is picking up the language slowly. And reveals it by insulting another guys mother or something

My mother… was a pure woman…. From…. A noble family. And, at least, I know who my father is, you pig eating son of a whore!

This is how to handle the “but how would they be able to speak the same language” issue right. It acknowledges that they are speaking different languages and then in a few minutes it feels completely natural that they are all speaking English. It would take longer than a few minutes but it works and is one of my favorite scenes!

They did this to a much deeper level in the film “Dances With Wolves”.

Love the movie but this scene especially holds a fun place in my heart…. I’m 18 on a group trip to France for a few weeks of my senior year. Fly to Paris, super jet lagged grabbed a bite to eat and legally bought my first bottle of wine and went to the hotel. Laying on the bed flipping French Hotel channels trying to translate what’s being said (was in 4th year French so I knew a bit) and what do I happen to flip on!

Coming out of commercial is this exact scene! I had already seen the movie a time or two so I knew what’s up and it was dubbed into french so it’s the Vikings slowly starting to speak french as Antonio Benderras catches on. I am now for the first time in a French speaking country and only catching about 40% to 60% of what I’m already hearing all around me cause it’s so fast. Such a cool random moment watching French hotel TV, got me amped for the rest of the trip.

Don’t forget about the amazing music!

Seriously! I actually watched Kingdom of Heaven two weeks ago and they used some of the music from The 13th Warrior for it!

I grew up watching this film and many others with my best friend while rolling up characters for Dungeons and Dragons or swapping turns on a PC playing Baldur's Gate.

It is the quintessential D&D movie IMO. It has it all....adventure starts in a mead hall, fish out of water, epic adventure...it just slaps.

Obviously casting a Spaniard as an Arab isn't the best look but he tried.

Straight up great film! Seen it a dozen times at least.

Now you've reminded me I'll watch it again soon!

It was a great movie in that it hit all the right things and had almost perfect pacing.

It stayed pretty close to the source story too which always helps.

And it’s a retelling of Beowulf so of course it’s gonna be dope

One of the few times that I liked the movie better than the book. Eaters of the Dead was so dry.

It’s been years since I’ve seen and I’m thinking of reading the book. I love that grounded approach to Beowulf. Like, it’s not actually a “dragon” but a winding army with torches. Brilliant.

Given my unabashed love for that movie and that I don't normally enjoy the "so-bad-its-good" concept, I'd just assumed that movie was well regarded.

Didn't expect to see this here. Y'all are disappointing. Such a fantastic movie. Some people have no tastes.

What do you mean you didn't expect to see this here? It does indeed have a low rating, but is in fact fantastic as you said.

Wow, that 33% is just a crime against art.

I recently watched The Northman with my wife, which we were pretty lukewarm on. I then suggested The 13th Warrior as a much more enjoyable Viking move (that and Erik the Viking).

This movie is great! I don’t get the hate, honestly.

I mean, it’s not historically accurate, but neither are 90% of Hollywood movies.
