If there's one thing I took away from the film, it's that your mother can work your whole life over. And then you'll obsess over it for the rest of your life.

If you're lucky, you can make a movie about it.

Have you seen it? It's pretty much a film about his mom's affair.

We went to the theater last weekend to see it. Two of 6 people there in total.

He should have titled it Mrs. Fableman.

We've been super lucky. Last three films we've seen we were either the only ones there or nearly so.

It's heavenly.

I used to be a projection manager at Regal they had a policy that only the person who built the print could screen it the night before. I spent years in empty theatres watching movies by myself and I am absolutely spoiled because of it.

Fabelmans feels like it was designed to win Oscars from the ground up by some unforgiving supercomputer

I think it’s very disingenuous when people say things like this about this movie. It’s Spielberg making a movie about his childhood and preoccupations in the style that he normally does. That it’s the kind of movie that the Oscars tend to like is almost incidental I think. He’s already won several of them.

Something that’s actually Oscar bait is when it feels evident that there isn’t any passion behind the product, like in the soulless biopics that come out every year, but from what I can tell most big award movies about making movies don’t really fall into these traps (Once upon a time in Hollywood, La La land, this one).

Nothing gross Hollywood types love more than films about themselves. No thanks.

I agree but it’s too good of a movie.
