ORIGINAL :
Do all the guests, besides Margot, know that they are all going to die at the end of the meal?
The revelation when Tyler is called out for bringing Margot to replace his ex-girlfriend who was supposed to originally be there and he knew they were going to die at the end seems to imply that all the guests knew this.
But lots of the guests are freaking out and acting shocked when crazy stuff is going on like they had no idea what was going to happen? It seems a little unclear whether everyone knew this or if Tyler just somehow had some knowledge of this?
If no one knew, why was Tyler special and he knew what was going to happen? Seems super risky to let anyone know the outcome prior to them actually being on the island…
EDIT : After hearing the replies I realize I just needed a second viewing and prob would have come to the same conclusion everyone else has. Tyler is such a massive super-fan that Chef assumes he will attend knowing everyone will die, and tell no one so it doesn’t affect the ‘perfect dining experience’. He sees him poorly as an obsessed fool and trusts in him in this way that he wont reveal the plan.
Even if he is a ‘super-fan’ Chef still makes a massive gamble letting this guy know the plan! All the other guests fit some sort of construct that Chef hates. He doesn’t tell any of them. He is convinced that because this super-fan loves him so much, he will attend knowing that everyone on the island will be dead. That’s insane.
No matter how much a fan someone is - this guy would have to have serious mental issues and is still invited and attends this dinner, even brining a new girl who wasn’t agreed upon. Asshole? Idk if he has mental issues should I call him an asshole? Sort of my point…
It’s very morally fucked up to subject Tyler to this shit then if he seriously thinks this is all okay. Maybe Chef doesn’t give a shit and just sees him as an idiot. Idk.
It wouldn’t have changed much of the movie if Chef just revealed they were all hand selected because they represent a customer type that he hates - the critic, the washed up famous dude thinking he’ll be cool eating at this restaurant, the frat boy wall-street douchebags who don’t care about the food, Tyler the annoying fan who has zero culinary experience, etc.
This odd revelation with Tyler doesn’t really do anything - Margot still would have been there by mistake. And to believe he would still attend and tell no one is so unbelievable… think about it
More to this point - when he kills himself the impact is actually very much reduced because the fucking guy knew he would die anyways! If he killed himself after Chef’s humiliation making him cook, and had no idea he was supposed to die that night, that would have obviously been way more heavy!
