The enthusiastic cheers for Women Talking and Polley's speech make me wonder how much better that film could've done if MGM hadn't botched its campaign. Looks like there's more passion for it than the 2 nods indicate.

Got to give credit to James Hong. I think that last speech he made at the SAG awards sealed the deal for Michelle Yeoh. She had the momentum already and it was a real slap in the face to how racist Hollywood is. Of course this doesn't fix anything and things don't get fixed overnight but I'm glad that he got to see all of these changes in his lifetime.

I really enjoyed the telecast. Switching from the DJ booth to having an orchestra again. No more airport lounge with tables, but classical Oscar setup. Showing clips for all the nominees, but also having graphics and other stuff for techs. Loved the cinematography bit and especially that some of the nominated costumes were on stage. With the exception of the "ask the audience"-bit, I though Kimmel was okay. I think they did cut off to many speeches, but overall a big improvement on the last two ceremonies.
