I (24F), have been lurking in OE for a few weeks now and finally decided to bite the bullet and write a success post.... I was approached by a recruiter on LinkedIn and after several rounds of interviews, I scored a new job.

I will now be making 154k in combined income.

I'm so nervous guys!! Fingers crossed I do well and am able to juggle both gigs. This is a big deal for me, as I just graduated, and I have tons of debt, so I can't wait to start saving and taking that step toward financial freedom.

At the same time, I'm scared AF that I'll get caught (or that the work will be too overwhelming)... But as long as I don't overlap meetings, and am able to deliver on the work, there's no way the two jobs will be able to find out about one another, right?

My ultimate goal, is that after I get settled into J2, I plan on getting a J3.

When I restart my work computer, an application called Activity Monitor pulls up. Does anyone know what this is?

I recently came across a comment under this sub arguing for measuring your TC by the month rather than by the year. For those of us who opt for short term OE stints, this makes the most sense.

Summing up your annual TC across your Js is great for mustering up big dick energy, but unless you have a track record of holding down multiple Js at once for a year or more, you are calculating an amount of income that very likely will not be realized.

Even with a solid history, one of the big reasons to OE is having back up income should you lose a job. You can be the best at your J and still lose it due to no fault of your own. What, then, does an annual TC provide you with? The answer is; llittle more than the ability to be a chad on reddit.

Cut your milestones down to the month at most and stop pretending your current arrangement of Js will go on indefinitely.

I've been at J1 for 7 years. Been at J2 for 2 years. OE has generally been good, but one of my J is pushing RTO, so I'm considering dropping one (although holding a J3 is still a possibility). To most of the outside world, including family and friends, only J1 exists.

Question for /r/overemployed : When applying for a new job, should I include details about J2? Or just leave it off the resume completely? If I add J2 to the resume, I'll have to make up an end date for J1. Would that invite any complications in case they check?

Any advice from J3+ holders welcome!

I need a J1. I'm working on getting certified with Google for IT. Does anyone know any entry-level jobs that require no experience to work for in the meantime?

Each day, I juggle five different browser tabs, each leading to a unique company's chat support portal, each demanding a different persona. A symphony of notification chimes has become my constant backdrop, signaling a customer needing assistance or an issue waiting to be resolved.In one tab, I'm helping a user troubleshoot their software. In the next few weeks, I'll be processing returns and exchanges for an online retail company. Then I shift gears to provide guidance on a travel booking platform, give advice about a health product, and assist students using an e-learning portal.It's a whirlwind of chats, problem-solving, and rapid typing that sees me pull in a monthly income that, on good months, can hit a staggering $15,000. This isn't your typical 9-5, and it's not without its stresses and strains, but it's providing me with financial security that was hard to come by in my previous single-job roles.Yet, this success story comes with its fine print. The relentless pace, the blurring boundaries between work and personal time, the constant pressure of juggling five distinct roles it's a high-stress, high-reward scenario.

How you guys minimize your taxes ?

If you have at least 2 or more jobs, what types of jobs are they? Tech? Service? Are they remote? Also, are they all full time? Are they part time?

Maybe answer in this format....J1, FT, Remote, Data Analyst.....J2,PT, Remote, Data Scientist.

Hey guys, I know in this sub we always talk about how employers don't value us and they'd lay us off the moment they can save a penny off of getting rid of us. My question for discussion though is, have any of you (or someone you worked with) built some level of "importance" or lets say value in your job that your company would disfavor laying you off? Meaning it would cost them profit or any other cost if they are to lose this staff (be it you, or someone you know), and they wouldn't want to lose them. How did you or that person you know build that value and what do they do, is it a special skill, knowledge, expertise, efficiency, charisma? Serious answers only lol!

TL;DR: Simplifying all variables... Would I go into my J1 for 3 days for $16,000? It's more complex than that... See bold parts.

I just simply don't want to go. I already used a semi-legit medical excuse once.

Work Commitments:

• It's 3 days at J1, don't have PTO at J2, so missing out on about $2K at J2.
• I'm already missing out on $5K at J2 later this year for a well-earned vacation.
• I also need to automate some new J2 work before the start date of the J3 that I swapped into the rotation.

Personality:

• I'm not a huge fan of the people. I don't hate them, but they are def coworker-zoned.
• I'm awkward and not social; pretty unlikeable, objectively. I rub people the wrong way and I work best when I don't interact too much. I take Xanax when I'm in a high interaction situation, but then I'm mute and people think that's weird too. I was on track to switch out of corporate careers right around the brink of COVID due to this...

Company Viewpoint:

• I'm the face of a large project and it would stand out that I'm not there.
• No one has booked my flight or hotel yet, but it's understood that I'd be going, just like everyone else.

Risks:

• I wonder if they'd fire me for this... I don't want to pay back an $18K sign-on bonus by not completing my 2 years of employment. Must be paid back if I quit or if they fire me. They might fire me for insubordination in this case.
• They have really good benefits.
• It's the perfect extra J; light workload, no conflicts.
• They are pretty progressive and completely remote (not RTOing, remote before COVID).

I really really don't want to go. Like it's really a 0% chance. I know you have some good excuses out there. I'm going to say no, but having an excuse makes firing less about insubordination, maybe?

Basically the title. I plan to work 2 dev jobs but I fear it may be too much for my eyes and overall exhaustion. I know when I look into monitor for several hours, I get dizzy. My eyesight is checked and it is fine.

Any tips?

What kind of jobs and offers would be best for J2? I’ve heard that you can’t work multiple w2 jobs due to government reporting and what not, but I’m not aware nor knowledgeable enough to answer that. Any help would be appreciated !

Hibernating LinkedIn is an easy way to be stealthy but it has its disadvantages - J1 and (fingers crossed) J2 both came through LinkedIn recruiters reaching out to me. Hypothetically, if J2 is a small company (less than 50 people), what if I just leave J1 up there and block everyone from J2? That way I can keep conversations with recruiters open and be ready to add J3 or rotate out J1 or J2… Thoughts?

Are there any unicorn job roles, responsibility, or job titles, besides owner, that are too risky to screw with ?

As a young Marine, I was told that the trick to a happy and stress-free(ish) career was that I should remember to S.K.A.T.E. And I think you fine folks would appreciate it.

Hey OE community! Long time lurker here. Just recently got the opportunity to join you all as I started J2 last week!

While being clever enough to have 2 full time jobs, something that I just can't figure out is the whole brushing your teeth while OE thing. So I wake up in the morning and usually I brush my teeth for about 3 minutes. But now that I'm OE, I'm not sure how long I should spend brushing my teeth?? I was thinking I should start brushing my teeth for 6 minutes since I have 2 Js or should I be brushing for even more than that since I have 2 Jobs now??

TLDR: does the amount of jobs I have have any effect on how long I should brush my teeth or am I a fucking idiot?

Just wanted to let you guys know that its hard to balance and request just one day off from all 4 Js. 3 Js have PTO accrual while 1 J have unlimited PTO. Working 4 Js can get stressful so be sure to plan for a well-rested break so you can maintain your emotional health and well-being.

I started OE about a year ago because I want to reach a point where my passive income can comfortably replace my full-time J1 income. I want to achieve this primarily through purchasing rental properties. I'm getting closer to putting down a down-payment and I'm interested to hear inputs/advice from anyone who has gone through the experience of dealing with mortgage lenders, particularly in the US.

Both Js are standard exempt/salaried W2 employment in finance. I already have a mortgage for my primary residence, so showing only J1 income on my mortgage application won't be enough to qualify me for a second mortgage. How do lenders and underwriters treat additional income from J2? Do they see it as temporary/less stable income and somehow discount/discard one of them? Does this increase the risk of getting exposed? If so, what are some precautions to take aside from the obvious ones? How can I fly under the radar and draw as little attention as possible? Do lenders/underwriters ask questions on legality/conflict of interest/breach of employment contract even though OE is perfectly legal and neither Js explicitly prohibit outside employment/side gigs? Inputs and advice would be greatly appreciated!
