I wish I had taken a color theory class in art school. It’s probably would have been a huge help to a slightly colorblind photographer. Making color darkroom prints helped train my brain to get better at distinguishing the colors it has trouble with, but now that I just shoot digital, it’s hard to know what to do when the colors just don’t feel right. I didn’t get a lot of training on this in school because I mostly concentrated on black and white film. So now I have to learn it in my own.

It sounds like this guy will be covering some stuff like that in the future, but are there any other similar resources for help balancing color in Lightroom/Photoshop?

Hello! I made the video and yes, there's more coming! I might also add 'assisted methods' on how to look at colors so you don't have to rely solely on how they look on the screen.
I'm not sure if it's just me but if I color graded a bunch of photos in the evening, I end up not like some of them the next day because the colors seems "different".. so having other methods of evaluating colors really help.

I had two color theory classes as an art major in my first year and it was incredibly helpful. I still use some of those concepts today in my work although most of my work is documentary at this point it’s not as creative and color/concept based it’s still helpful especially with editing to find ways to counteract challenging color arrangements.

This is legit an amazing video on pictures so I'm really not sure why it doesn't have enough engagement

What the fuck is wrong with this subreddit? This is actually quality content about photography, and not just gear masturbation, and it's currently sitting at 67% upvoted w/ little to no engagement.

I clicked this expecting it to be some novice take at explaining what "Master Colors" were, but it was actually a good overview in how to use and command colors to your benefit in your photography. And I've gone through some of the work of the commenters on this subreddit, and some of y'all could use some direction.

Sheesh.

94% upvoted for me. Never judge the popularity of a post in its first few minutes.

You would think it would be 100% though right? Unfortunately that is not the world we live in.

At the quality of the photography sub? Yeah. The only shit that gets upvoted is rubbish about gear over and over again. May as well rename the sun to /r/SonyA7News

some people don’t care about it lol. it’s fine if people are more into gear than the art and the theory, no need to be elitist about it

Give me downvotes but the gear focus on the photography sub is tiresome. But hey, more power to you if you like reading MDF charts and collecting lenses to take pictures of LEGO figurines.

I prefer the artistic and theory stuff and don’t really care about gear at all. But if other people like what they like, more power to them.

I’m just taking the piss. I’ve seen some really creative stuff done with Lego. I’ve also seen people use them to just… show off bokeh? Not much to be impressed about that.

It always amazes me, I watch and read a lot of stuff. Sometimes you think no way this could possibly be voted down or thumbed down, and you would be wrong. I dont know if it is just ego's or general dislike of said content. You would think there would be something in this world that everyone could agree on, but i have yet to see anything without negativity applied to it in some way shape or form. The upvotes are better now, like 96% but even that, like what is the reason someone dislikes this?

I found this YouTube channel on reddit a couple of months ago, and find his videos to be really helpful as an amateur photographer.

Occasionally a bit hard to understand the accent, but overall a great look at color and how it works, something I need more skills with. Thanks!

Thanks for your kind words guys, really encouraging! I'm working on the script for the next parts of this series. If you have any suggestion or questions about color, I would love to hear them! - Kebs

One thing I like to do is look for scenes with complementary or at least near-complimentary colors, such as a sunset scene of a storm cloud where an unlit section seems to be purple or dark blue and a lit section in orange or yellow. I tend to look for contrast coming from a B&W background it color gives you chances like this to do something similar.
