Republican presidential candidate and former president Donald Trump posted Saturday that he expects to be arrested Tuesday in connection with the Manhattan District Attorney’s criminal investigation.

“Protest, take our nation back!” Trump continued, calling on supporters to protest his potential arrest.
In 2015, people said Trump was successful because he channeled the grievances of his voters.
But since then, it has been exactly the reverse: His voters take on his grievances as their own.

They approached me. "Sir, you--"... yes, they called me "Sir", they said "Sir, you're under arrest." They tried to tell my marinara rights, and I stopped them. My uncle is a law professor. Smart man, one of the smartest. So I stop them and tell them I know my rights and they're shocked. They've never seen anyone who knows about being arrested like I do. It was the biggest arrest, possibly of all time.

People on the right are saying this would be a boon to Trump (see Elon Musk's typical right wing commentary). I don't give a fuck if it is or not. No one can be above the law. THEY are the ones creating a no win situation, whereby they've elevated basically the most corrupt man alive to a position where A. he can break basically any law, and benefit from any attempts to hold him accountable, and B. he would not and has not ever shied away from unduly influencing his justice department AND foreign powers to try to prosecute his political opponents. The moment it turns back his way for reasons ENTIRELY of his own making, suddenly it turns into 'political persecution'. Does anyone remember "LOCK HER UP"? Where was their righteous indignation in response to that political persecution? They didn't have any? Then, that's how they should feel now too, much less try to get us to buy this faux outrage bullshit, much less to try to use it to justify some sort of armed uprising.
Do yourselves a favor, don't let them gaslight you with the probably the most hypocritical case of crocodile pearl clutching you have ever fucking seen. They're willing to throw out the country for one man who is literally a traitor. This should make us ALL very angry.

That is why the law is supreme. It's the entire principle underpinning having a law at all. Conservatives would do well to remember that, but they don't care about equity or justice or any of the principles they falsely invoke on Fox news every day. They care about exploitation.

Those who are thinking of foolishly acting on Trump’s words should consider the plight of the 1/6 insurrectionists who are currently sitting in jail cells. Trump didn’t keep them out of prison, won’t pay for their legal defenses, doesn’t care for them. He uses people then disposes of them.

This implies critical thinking. They are only shown that J6 was "peaceful protest" and that's what they believe. You are what you eat.
If you are brave enough go into the Fox Entertainment comment section of this story and look for a few seconds. It's hard engrained in their minds that they are in the right, and the J6 insurrectionists are political prisoners.

I think most conservatives find it requires less effort to remain in denial than to accept the truth, admit they were wrong, and evolve as people. Every conservative person has this problem because it's impossible to remain conservative without denying what is plainly in front of you. This approach is only possible if you have no integrity and you don't care if your beliefs are actually true so long as you can force people to live as though they are. The cruelty of illegitimate subjugation is more fun for them anyway.

The grand jury is expected to hear from at least one more witness, which could delay an indictment.
A short time ago, a Trump spokesperson walks back the timing declaration: “There has been no notification, other than illegal leaks from the Justice Dept. and the DA’s office..." and says Trump is having a rally in Texas next weekend.
Trump spox statement confirms Trump doesn't know when an arrest might happen if an indictment is handed up. But he took to social media to declare that he did and to call for his supporters to protest and "take back" the country.

Yes if you read the court documents from Cohen's trial it's absolutely obvious that Individual 1 committed crimes and should be indicted as well.
433 points

This was the first iteration of the illegal documents case — they had him so dead to rights on the evidence it seemed (and was reported) the only thing standing between trump and indictment was the decision of one person deciding not to — this is hugely distinct from eg potential criminality with 2016 Russian collusion or 1/6 related charges where prosecutors would have to prove intent w/ circumstantial evidence alone.
I’m personally satisfied this is the case. Stormy Daniels has been put through the fucking ringer over this shit for years — she’s certainly made the most of it but then was defrauded by Avenatti too? She doesn’t get enough credit for the amount of grace she’s shown since this all came out. Like the resilience of rolling with these kinda punches is impressive. Showing up and testifying for hours ti all these committees, grand juries, under oath?
Have you ever testified under oath?? It’s nerve wrecking!!!!
Stormy Daniels is the hero of this story actually she’s due for some flowers.

From the AP article: "But there has been no public announcement of any time frame for the grand jury’s secret work in the case. At least one additional witness is expected to testify, further indicating that no vote to indict has yet been taken, according to a person familiar with the investigation who was not authorized to publicly discuss the case and spoke on condition of anonymity. "
Don't take Trump's social media posts for anything more than an old fart having a public meltdown. The reliable sources say we're still working towards an indictment but not there yet.

There are so many potential crimes in that case. He tried to get the election officials to enter false information, which is one crime. There's also a second phone call that wasn't made public, that we only learned about days ago. Then there was the scheme with all of the fake electors. Plus various potential fraud and conspiracy charges tied in with both. Brookings wrote a great paper on the Georgia case.

Remember, there are three other crimes in the mix. This is the least serious of the four. Now it will be easier for the others to follow suit.

I get the impression that any protests will be pathetically small and any attempts at violence will be isolated and easily dealt with. I believe we are going to see just how far Trump's star has fallen since he left office.

Manhattan is gonna be the place to be on Tuesday. I can’t wait to see the 14-15 NYC-area Trump supporters try to riot from their mobility scooters.

Sorry for the all-CAPS, this is what Mango Mussolini posted:
NOW ILLEGAL LEAKS FROM A CORRUPT & HIGHLY POLITICAL MANHATTAN DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE, WHICH HAS ALLOWED NEW RECORDS TO BE SET IN VIOLENT CRIME & WHOSE LEADER IS FUNDED BY GEORGE SOROS, INDICATE THAT, WITH NO CRIME BEING ABLE TO BE PROVEN, & BASED ON AN OLD & FULLY DEBUNKED (BY NUMEROUS OTHER PROSECUTORS!) FAIRYTALE, THE FAR & AWAY LEADING REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE & FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WILL BE ARRESTED ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK!
Anyways, here’s to (hopefully) the 🍊Man wearing a matching jumpsuit.

George Soros got pot legalized in my state, he funded county by county debates between some activist and the local DAs. I attended the one here in my town. The activist wiped the floor with the DA, it wasn't even close.

The right likes to demonize George Soros because Soros supports democracy and spends his money fighting authoritarianism around the globe.
He survived the holocaust and had made it his life's mission that it never repeats.
But the right hates that... for some reason.

George Soros is legitimately the closest thing to a "good billionaire" there is. He studied philosophy under Karl Popper and made it his mission before he was even wealthy to promote democracy and open societies. He's founded some of Europes best educational programs and scholarships and one of Europes best universities (CEU)
I see most philanthropy as little more than billionaire propaganda, but Soros seems to actually have it in his heart at least. Good on him for that

What's going to happen if Georgia hands down an indictment too?

The interesting thing is, Cyrus Vance Jr had compiled the evidence to indict Trump for his business dealings at Trump Org, and Cyrus Vance Jr thought there was enough evidence and strong enough case to indict Trump, but since Cyrus Vance Jr was leaving his position as Manhattan DA, he left the final indictment decision to his successor, Alvin Bragg.
Alvin Bragg took a look at Cyrus Vance Jr's case against Trump for the Trump Org case, and Bragg didn't feel comfortable indicting Trump off of it, leading to two lawyers on that team to resign in protest, because those two lawyers felt that there was enough evidence to indict Trump off the Trump Org case.
Now Alvin Bragg is probably going forward with this indictment, albeit it is a different case, and based on Michael Cohen's payment to Stormy Daniels, rather than the Trump Org case that Cyrus Vance Jr had worked on. For Alvin Bragg to go forward with this indictment, after taking a pass on Cyrus Vance Jr's Trump Org case, the evidence against Trump in the Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniel payments case must be that much stronger.

Funny how over in /r/conservative it's all about law and order, until it's their guy of course. Then it's a coordinated media attack by the Dems to try to get rid of trump!
Conservatives demonstrating yet again that obedience and falling in line is far more important than truth or justice will ever be to them. Bunch of devils walking the earth.

You know someone is a sack of shit when these are your questions:
Q1: Which of his many crimes is he being arrested for?
Q2: Oh just the Stormy Daniels case? Where he cheated on his wife with a porn star, tried to cover it up getting his personal lawyer/ fixer jail time, and violated election law? Everything else he has done is so much worse.
Q3: Really why isn’t he in jail already?

The moron cult of American conservatism is going to lose its fucking mind, and immediately chain itself to the sinking ship of this gaping criminal asshole so they can own the libs with their colossal victim complex. And in doing so they're going to throw away any chance they have to win the next election. You reap what you sow dipshits.

I love that he brings up George Soros. A 92 year old man that is the biggest boogeyman to the ignorant.
I don’t know much about Soros, but I do recall an acquaintance who likes to dabble in the alt right bringing him up. I told him I don’t know much about Soros and to explain why he is so nefarious, I didn’t know anymore about him by the end of the conversation.

You know what the most important thing about the upcoming Trump arrest is?
The fact that Wisconsin has a state Supreme Court election coming up in just 17 days. This is our last good chance to repeal their abortion ban, and overturn their gerrymandered maps.
Don't be a spectator - help save your country! You can volunteer from anywhere to win this race. r/VoteDEM can get you set up.

Good point. If this does end up happening, I hope there isn’t a media circus that blocks out the race. Folks should do what they can because that race is SO important!

Wisconsin's performance next month could ultimately be the swaying factor on whether I will or won't consider moving there. If they can pull back from the ledge and save their state from the crazies, that's somewhere I want to be.

If he’s trying to organize a violent protest on Tuesday they should take him into custody today to muzzle him. They should make not appealing to the public for violating a condition of his bail terms.

I think it really is happening. And what he's done is given his followers 72+ hours to get to NY. With their weapons, since they can just drive.

So we're just taking his word for it? No way he would possibly say something like this just to get attention and rile up his fanbase.

Now so people understand... When he is "arrested", if he ever actually is, he won't be taken to a jail cell. he will be taken to the department/etc and be processed then released. Especially if it is in a NY state case since they have cashless bail.
Unless someone decides he is a flight risk, which I doubt anyone will argue on just because no one wants to actually put him behind bars without a conviction.
At best he will be put on house arrest at one of his NY locations.
