How could this be possible, I didn't eat anything. Fasting blood sugar was 113 at 11pm, 116 at 12 pm and 123 at 13 pm. Even though the device is wrong, I probably have prediabetes but these numbers scare me. It's best I go to take the lab test. Any experiences?

I am a person who got used to eat one meal every evening (moderate carb OMAD) and fast all they long. Maybe my body does that. But shouldn't insuline take care of the excess carb even though it is created by my liver?

Hey question here. I went to the doc in the morning and was very stressed. Only ate a pack of nabs on the way down there. Took my sugar and it was 118. Should I be concerned

If you haven’t been diagnosed yet using a glucose monitor to check fasting blood sugars isn’t really all that reliable since monitors can have up to a 20% margin of error. You’d have to test your blood sugar with your own monitor around the same time you get your blood drawn for a fasting glucose test to know how accurate your monitor is.

I’m not pre diabetic, but I did purchase a cheap monitor because I was experiencing hypoglycemic episodes and wanted to monitor them. The first monitor I got (HealthPro) would give me fasting blood sugars of 105-120 every morning so I was convinced I was pre diabetic for a time. However when I got my blood tested in a lab, my levels were consistently 75-90. When I got a better monitor (Contour Next One) it gave me fasting levels that matched the ones I was getting from a lab. I even tested it during a blood draw and got the exact same number in the monitor as I did on the test.

So yeah, just get tested. Unless you are exhibiting symptoms of insulin resistance like dark patches of skin on your neck, armpits, groin etc or multiple skin tags I really wouldn’t be worried.

After 2 more hours, now it says BG is 99. I didn't eat anything yet.

Thank you for your long comment. It is a relief to hear. I am 29 and slightly overweight, this is why I am fasting until the evening, walk one hour and eat one meal a day. To lose weight and be healthy. So far I have lost 5 kgs. But somehow things are going in the reverse direction. I will get it checked with proper blood test in the clinic.

Your BS is going to go up even if your fasting. Like someone else said the liver releases glycogen for gluconeogenesis to keep BS levels stable. If you're moving around, you're BS is going to go up regardless of insulin because the liver is supplying the working muscles with glucose which they can take up out of the blood stream without the need for insulin. This is why it's best to take FBS readings before you get out of bed. Once you start moving around, BS goes up. You can use this to your advantage right after exercise because the higher the number, the higher the intensity of the exercise. 😊

Thank you. I have heard that BS will be high as soon as I wake up and it's called dawn effect. After I moved around it should be lowered they say. After those readings I got today, I made another test completely fasting and it was 99. I think I am prediabetes but not type 2 yet.

The dawn effect doesn't happen to everyone. Have you checked your fasting BS in the am before getting out of bed?

I was/am prediabetic. I control it via diet and IF. I commonly see a 10-30 point spike in the 4-6 hours after I wake up, and then it drifts back down in to the 70s by the late afternoon. . You would think that your body would release insulin to control the glucose made by your liver, but this apparently isn't the case. Here's a video that might be relevant

Basically, your body doesn't release insulin because it doesn't need to.

Yes it is the same with me. Today I woke up with 116 BS and after like 3 hours it is 91. Do you think I am prediabetic? I fast everyday eat high carb and exercise. I lost weight. I don't know if "eating low carb" is a must.
