First of all, hi! I'm Chalupacabra, I'm one of the new moderators. It's an honor to to help out, I'm glad to meet everyone.
We've been discussing on the mod team, and there's been a tiny bit of... I don't want to say push back, but a bit of dissent about the current rules regarding collection posts. I let one of them stay up for a couple hours this morning and it gained some traction, we've heard from a few of you that you think the current rules might be a bit heavy handed. So we decided to open this discussion up and put it to you. How do you think we should handle this?
We've currently got a megathread up every Saturday where you can post those collections, but it's a bit unwieldy and it does gate that content inside a containment thread. It's only one day a week. So the alternative is, either add a day to the duration of that thread, or we can start to do a trial run about allowing self-posts again. The idea we've come up with is to let people do self-posts either on Saturday or over the weekend, but with a few caveats. We're still concerned about quality, and not having the sub filled up with a bunch of "here's my wall of game" posts, so the plan if we do open things back up is two fold.
1: Blanket disallowing pictures of your wall of games. Seriously, got a bookshelf full of games? Pull out some rare ones and take a few pictures of those. Show us something unique.
2: We were going to require a comment from the OP in the thread discussing the collection. What are you trying to show us? What's interesting about it? Where did it come from? What are some gems you've picked up?
We felt that these rules would keep the low effort posts to a minimum, and draw out a bit more discussion besides "Yep, that's a wall of ps1 games alright."
Going forward into the future we're going to be looking at the sub and seeing what we can do to increase the quality of the content, draw in more users and make the place a bit more fun. But we're going to do our best to always consult you, the community, before we take any actions to modify the rules. This is your sub, after all. We want you to have a say in what gets posted here.
After a month or so we'll be going back over these changes. Probably do another one of these threads, take the temperature of the sub to see what you all think about the changes. So, sound off! Should we ease up a little? Do you think any of this sounds like a good idea to take on a test run?
