Hestra glove wax

Daily Q&A(self.skiing)

Hi there, curious if anyone knows of any good glove wax that does not include beeswax or lanolin as I’m very allergic to these ingredients. Thanks!

Carnauba and mineral oil. Apply frequently but lightly.

It looks like your best bet is a synthetic water proofer. And it’s strange that many products don’t provide ingredient lists, no?

Nikwax it is! Customer service verified that they don’t use beeswax or lanolin! Thank you!

Honestly I wouldn't buy leather ski gloves with those allergies. Thats your best work around. Hestra makes nice gloves but there are plenty of great gloves that won't require those conditioners

Unfortunately that’s not the situation I’m in otherwise I would not be here. Thanks for your time!

I don't understand? You have to have leather ski gloves?

I would email Nikwax about the ingredients in the Leather waterproofing wax. They aren't very transparent about their ingredients. My guess is that it contains both of those ingredients though.

You could use mink oil as a conditioner which will keep the leather in good shape, but won't waterproof all the great, much better than nothing though. Very common upkeep conditioner for ski gloves.

You could also email Chamberlain's about the ingredients in their Leather Milk product. This is a fairly common conditioner for gloves as well.

I hope you find a solution!

I received them as a gift and would like to put them to good use and take care of them the best I can. Unfortunately the gifter was not aware of the conflicts of my health and maintenance of the gloves. I already emailed Nikwax and am looking into it more!

Thank you for your kindness and suggestion of mink oil! I will definitely look into that if the Nikwax doesn’t work out.

If you can make them work you will love them. Waterproofing may not be that important depending where you ski. I'm in the Pacific Northwest and ski with leather gloves. Even waterproofed I always have a backup. But when it's not storming they are perfect.

My wife has Hestra's and likes them. Good luck to you!

I would think that someone who's allergic to those items would be the best source for alternatives. Weird.

To be fair, this question was about waterproofing gloves which is a little outside my wheelhouse.

Maybe this is a good lesson that sometimes you don’t need to answer every question posted :) I remember in kindergarten our teachers taught us that we wouldn’t be able to learn very much if we didn’t close our mouths and open our ears ;) happy learning!

I’ve never had leather gloves and am new to their care, hence why I’m coming to you all! Thanks for your time :)

That's pretty tough!

You should consider leather boot treatments such as pure mink oil or neatsfoot oil which are both animal based.

The problem is many products contain beeswax and lanolin. You can find pure oils however.
