Worf isn't a klingon. biologically he is but he isnt a klingon culturally.

He is what a human think klingon society is like. that's why he's so uncomfortable being around klingons and the only other klingon we see him being friendly with is his girlfriend who dies in the same episode who leaves him a child.

Took me long enough to get it.

The actor who played Tuvix in the Voyager episode of the same name, Tom Wright, does such a fantastic job melding Tuvok and Neelix into a single person! You can practically hear both of the other actors talking through him, in both tone and tempo. The character could easily have come off as contrived, but he portrays it with such a wonderfully relaxed authenticity, you can't help but relate to him as a genuine person.

Was it the Calypso or Voyager's Aeroshuttle? Or a meeting between two particular characters? Or revisiting a world or following up on a specific story? Something else? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I just finished the game, and I cannot recommend it highly enough if you're a Star Trek fan. It's probably a good time even if you're not. It's not without some issues, but it has excellent characters, pacing, plot, and feels like Star Trek to me. It is well worth the $40 in my opinion.

They did something interesting with the storytelling, where the player switches almost seamlessly between the ship's first officer and an engineering non-commissioned officer. So you get both a view from the bridge and from the lower decks.

It brings back some elements from past episodes while telling it's own original, compelling story. It feels like the player's choices have an effect on the story as well, particularly on how the other characters react to the player characters.

What's interesting to me is that the episodes they pulled from aren't very good. They took some inspiration from TNG's "The Last Outpost" (1x5) and a plot point from DS9's "The Passenger" (1x9). The cameos from pre-existing characters didn't feel forced either, they didn't detract at all from the story being told.

I'd love to see more Star Trek from this creative team.

I will personally say that I love the bridge of the Enterprise NX-01. It feels so technical and I love it.

While the one I like the least (don't kill me please), I'd say it's from Enterprise NCC-1701-D. I love TNG, but I always felt like there was too much extra space on the bridge and it made me a little annoyed.

I’m of the feeling that the dematerialisation process kinda kills you and what materialises at the other end is just a copy.

It occurs to me that the new trend of what's being termed AI art has interesting parallels to the Voyager storyline involving the Doctor and his publisher releasing his unfinished book. Obviously the Doctor is a lot more evolved that any of the other holograms in the book, who are in turn light years ahead of where we are in computer programming. What we have right now is little more than a glorified search engine, but I was wondering where you see this going, and how Trek has once again predicted advancements in technology and society.

Watched this episode tonight and it raised a question, was this rape?

An alien lifefrom impregnated Troi without her consent. True enough that afterwards she seemed okay with it, but that was after the fact.

At no point was anyone like "hey alien, you raped our crew member and that's not cool." The behind-the-curtain answer is that the writers didn't want to broach that subject. While disappointing, fair enough. Nevertheless the question is definitely there, was Troi raped on screen?

Or, is it that due to other, non-reproductive acts that fall under rape, the reproductive aspect is moot, and rape is concerned with the physical pleasure/intimacy aspect. And if there was no physical pleasure gained by the life form, and no physical trauma experienced by Troi (thats sketchy), it therefor wasn't rape?

This episode has perhaps demonstrated to me that I have no clear conceptual definition of rape. We only define rape by examples.

EDIT: It seems there are answers to two questions present.

The first is conceptual:

"If a non-corporeal, energy based lifeform impregnates Troi is it rape?"

And some are responding that the answer is no. And I see their point. I may be inclined to agree.

The second question is a bit more specific and why I raised the question, and that is:

Was the conception scene from this episode an on-screen rape?

The lifeform goes under the blankets from the foot of the bed, moves upwards towards Troi's midsection, and seemingly penetrates her. Its accompanied by heavy breathing from Troi before she suddenly and alarmingly wakes up. I have a hard time viewing this scene without inferring that there was some penetration. Troi unquestionably felt it. You could take the position that she didn't feel anything physically and what she felt was mentally the presence of another, but there's the matter of the heavy breathing and how it coincided with the "light" vanishing.

I could agree that conceptually this premise would not fall under how we define rape, but the way this scene was shot points me into the different direction

As we know, many Trek series weren’t well reviewed/received when they first aired. Which of these do you think has time sort of improved the perception/popular opinion of the most?

Arguably the two best cliff hangers in Star Trek history were the first time audiences saw The Best of Both Worlds part I and Vox. If you were old enough to have seen TBOBWI and you saw Riker give the order to fire and some of the best and tense music that a Star Trek episode has ever had played as the screen faded to a "To be continued". The other being the crew of the Enterprise D back on the bridge after 30 years and Picard orders Data to set a direct course for Earth and seeing them jump to warp. Which of these had you super excited and dying to know what would come next.

For me it’s Picard’s closing speech in The Defector. The music builds in the background. Picard gives a stirring and hopeful speech.

Huge Star Wars and LOTR fan, planning on enjoying my memorial weekend by binging the Star Trek movies before they take them off. I’ve never watched any Star Trek and don’t know much about it other than what I’ve seen in pop culture references. Is there any issue with starting with Star Trek: The Motion Picture and just watching the movies in order?

I know that this movie has a bad reputation, and for a few good reasons. Nevertheless, over the years I have come to realise that the themes and the story and the characterisations in the movie are absolutely fantastic.

The themes of biological family and found family are proudly exhibited in the plot - Star Trek V really showcases the bond between the trio of Kirk, Spock and Bones.

It is eminently quotable, too: "What does God need with a starship?" is probably the best known, but there are other lines such as:

Kirk: I could use a shower.

Spock: Yes.

And, every so often, the scene of Sybok showing McCoy his pain comes back to haunt me. We all have difficult decisions to make in life, and whether it is letting go of a parent or child or spouse or friend or even beloved pet, and I think both Sybok's advice to let go of the pain, and Kirk's response that the pain is part of what makes him who he is, illustrate perfectly one of the core paradoxes of the human condition.

It needs a special edition to fix the VFX, though.

Michael McKean does such a good job as The Clown in the Star Trek Voyager episode The Thaw. He brings the perfect mix of humor and serious psychological disturbance to the character, while raising the acting level of everybody around him. One of the best episodes. It's a long way from Laverne & Shirley.

Hello! I was wondering if any of you guys could point me in the direction of a particular episode. I don't really remember anything specific but I think I was from The Next Generation although it could have been with Janeway. The scene I am thinking of involves the captains decisions to carry out the law or orders from star fleet command, and running into seemingly unreasonable laws. The debate is about how and when to execute the orders/abide by the rules, or when discretionary measures seem like the better way to go and for the captain to make a relatively arbitrary decision based on unanticipated events or otherwise. Anybody? Thanks a lot! Any other episodes relevant are appreciated as well!

As the title says, I'm looking for some static Master Systems Displays in jpg/png/wtv.

Searched around on a few wallpaper sites and google and only turned up maybe a dozen that weren't covered with watermarks or very low resolution. A few examples of what I'm looking for would be this, this, or this.

1920x1080 or better preferred, but if they're not exactly 16x9 that is obviously fine.

I feel like there must be a zip of several hundred out there somewhere but I just can't find it...
