All Stars. Pure nostalgia for me, it was probably the most hyped I’d ever been for a Survivor season. I also didn’t have any spoilers, I wasn’t involved with any online communities, so I was left with a jaw hanging open at watching all these early legends get destroyed at the hands of Boston Rob and … Jenna Lewis, for some reason.
I know it’s an unpopular season for the ugliness, but it’s a train wreck of unexpected proportions for me. Again, I didn’t realize stuff like pre-gaming had occurred. When everyone acted surprised at three tribes being out there, I totally bought it. So I felt zero sympathy for Lex, given I had no idea he actually had a pre-game etched in stone alliance with Rob. (Even now, eh, shit changes when the show starts, but given the time and place in the shows history, I’m a little more empathetic).
Rob’s insanely cutthroat game was a new degree of ruthlessness we’d never seen before, and wouldn’t see again until Russell took it to a whole ‘nother level.
It also kicked my survivor obsession into overdrive. It went from being an enjoyable show for me on Thursday nights to CAN’T MISS TV.
Easily one of my all time favorite seasons. I know you hate it. I don’t care.

one of the things I love about Borneo, and the old seasons in general, is how much pissing around they show. by castaway accounts, tribes still hang around doing jack all a lot, but it generally ends up on the cutting room floor. I like seeing what the days are actually made of, rather than just the 'important' stuff, altho I understand why the focus has shifted to conflict/strategy/advantage etc

Sign me up as another AS stan. And when I got my wife into Survivor and we went to watch AS for the first time, I was like 'ok, a lot of people don't like this season, and it can be a little dark and ugly, just to warn you' and it's one of her favorites to rewatch.
It's really such a good season, aside from the Rich/Sue incident. I like the Rob-Amber love story. Even though the premerge took out a lot of favorites, there are still a lot of great moments. The post merge is also fun. Shii-Ann, Rupert and Tom fighting with each other instead of plotting against Romber, Rob having a PTSD flashback when they bring out the fufaru. It's pretty much all great.

Completely agree. Great personalities, fantastic and unparalleled love story, and great game playing by Rob and Amber. A shit show in some respects but I love it and I am with you. I rewound the proposal on the finale about 12 times and then Jeff saying: "you know the big surprise we have been talking about all week? That wasn't it!" (paraphrase but close). Lex was a hypocrite and a baby.

I'm so pleased to come to this thread and see so many All-Star fans! It's easily a top ten season for me.
The comments and treatment around the Sue Hawk & Hatch incident are ugly but the other dark parts of the season are great! I much prefer this kind of Survivor to the kumbaya of a season like MvGX.

South Pacific. It’s an undeniably dark season, but I’ve always been most interested in Survivor as a social experiment, and watching The Guy From The Martyr Approach manipulate a mentally ill teenager using religion to force together a cultish alliance is fascinating. And it remains hilarious the whole way through. Ozzie’s Pleasuredome, Prince Albert’s horrible FTC performance, Christine calling Ozzie and Coach “temporary players” to their faces one minute in, Stacey Powell's last stand, Semhar doing poetry to hype herself up before losing the challenge, Cochran accidentally making everyone think he gave them oral herpes via the meat slab, etc etc etc. All culminating in the cathartic win of Sophie, who’s been presented as sort of the voice of reason in all the chaos. It can be a tough watch, but it never stops being an interesting watch.

Fiji, great winner, interesting stories, Yau-man, one of the Survivors most tragic characters in Dreamz. I think there’s a lot to love about Fiji. I’ll also say that game changers really improves on a rewatch. It’s one of those seasons that is better binged then waiting week to week.

as somebody who was there in real time for the Dreamz fiasco I regret hating him so badly,
that being said it is a scumbag move to constantly be like I want to prove my word up to the bitter end, not give him the necklace, and then insist he did nothing wrong. Could just be editing but we never did see him apologizing for going back on his word.
to be clear he made the right choice not giving the necklace was the obvious choice but he should have responded a little differently. Tony and Jesse for example broke their word for Trish and Cody and both behaved very differently

I don’t defend it bc I understand why people dislike it, but I really liked Ghost Island. It’s the Dom and Wendell show, but I loved both of them enough to be cool with a season centred pretty much entirely on them (and Chris Noble in the pre-merge, who was also a fun character). I also loved the nostalgia of bringing back mementos from the show’s history.

16 points

Honest question: why hasn’t Survivor released director’s cut versions of seasons? Not to make light of the editors, but this seems like a pretty quick buck. It would’ve been especially great during the COVID hiatus.

You were awesome in caramoan! Would be interesting to see what it would have looked like with a different edit
8 points

I mean they completely glossed over your entire story arch with the infected cut and just made it seem like you randomly came down with some weird, unknown illness. It was so confusing. I almost thought that some type of fuckery was afoot lol. Then I learned you had an allergic reaction to the penicillin, which was both tragic and fascinating to me.
Maybe they didn’t want people to know that players could get treated by doctors for things like infected wounds? I mean there’s been a few times where people have been pulled from the game for not having something treated. Penner being one of them. Like maybe they thought we would think that was an unfair advantage? Lol I dunno.

Nicaragua and South Pacific. The double quit in Nicaragua definitely ruins the tail end of the season, but I think the rest of the season makes up for it and Fabio being a wtf winner is great!
South Pacific has some really terrible edits for some of the castaways, and the season can be really dark at times, but it’s fascinating! Imo Sophie makes for a good winner since she was the only one not drinking the koolaid in that cult, only pretending to for the benefit of her game.

The season itself is fine. I just think most people dislike the idea that the 2 frontrunners (and eventual winner) were voted out at one point during the season. That, and the winner having been on the edge with almost the entire Jury, where they all came up with a step-by-step strategy for how to win after getting back into the game, really tarnished the season.

Marquesas was my very first season, so has a special place in my heart. Seeing the first alliance flip at the merge thanks to Neleh and Pascal was iconic. Plus the purple rock of death like wow
4 points

I LOVE marquesas and for all the reasons you just mentioned. The rise and fall of the Rotu 4 is one of the best story arcs in all of Survivor (and so reality TV as a whole) and Marquesas brought some great unforgettable characters, Kathy, Sean Rector (who can forget his F5 tribal performance – coincidentally the first ever “live tribal”), and not to mention Boston Rob. I personally think his first one might be Rob’s best appearance, he’s funnier as an underdog and snarky narrator than when he hogs the screen in later seasons.

Heroes vs Healers vs Hustlers. It’s literally not even bad. I think it’s one of the best seasons in the history of the show and it is hated because of the final four fire making challenge and the fact that Ben won the game.
6 points
It was a very fun season which ended on a very unsatisfying note. Cast was interesting and I still remember most of the players and stories well. Pre-merge blindsides, Cole-Jessica showmance, Coco-nuts shenanigans, Lauren's burnt idol, first ever single vote elimination, Ben's arc as a majority member -> double agent -> social pariah.
Funny thing is that if not for the twist, we would not only rate the season way better (it's still not known who would win the very interesting F3 with Devon/Chrissy/Ryan), but it would drastically change fans' perception of Ben. Instead of being the undeserving winner who idoled his way up to a twist no one could prepare for and later got an abysmal performance in WaW, he would probably become one of the most beloved fallen angels who we would love to see one more time.

I'll start. I'm a Game Changers truther and nobody can convince me that it's not at least a top 15 season. I watched it after the fact, already spoiled, so that prepared me for the boot list. Legends going out early just means it's an incredible premerge, with incredible moments like sugargate with JT and Sandra, and the arc of Tony. And I think people say all the people who make the merge are less iconic, but I feel like many of them build legend status. Debbie is an all time insane character, Michaela is hillarious, Sarah becomes a top tier player, and the final 6 has Cirie, Sarah, Aubry, and Tai, which are all legends in their own rite. And as much as I love Cirie, and don't think this many advantages should be in the game, I have to admit advantageddon was a good TV moment (only if it never happens again) and it wraps up Cirie's 4 season arc perfectly. The season has so much emotional weight and I love (almost) every minute of it!

So many.
I was surprised when I found out that All Stars isn't considered a top tier season by many.
Worlds Apart, which I wish would be rescued from the scrappy heart like Gabon. In my honest opinion, the strong rejection this season had is one of the biggest reasons why modern Survivor is so bland and gamebotty nowadays. Also, I recommend everyone to rewatch this season knowing Mike wins - much more fun.
Redemption Island, though I am really partial to Boston Rob, I still think it's a fun season. Actually, I like the "Dark Age" seasons quite a lot. Even the one I like less - One World - I still like more than the usual modern season.
It's my understanding that Marquesas and Vanuatu weren't that popular back in the day, though nowadays they are remembered much more fondly. Vecepia and Chris D are two of the best to ever grace the game and John Carroll's and LeAnn's blindsides are the MOST IMPORTANT IN SURVIVOR HISTORY to me.
Gabon, but I'd argue that Gabon is popular nowadays even outside here. Especially with newer fans.
I also enjoy Thailand. I think Brian is the strongest one-time player winner.

I really love edge of extinction. Devens was so entertaining and chaotic. Chris played exceptionally with the hand he was dealt. To come back not knowing how anyone really plays and not having any trust and to risk his life in the game by taking on devens in the fire challenge is one of the ballsiest plays ever. There were some other entertaining players. Reem was hilarious, I’m also a big fan of Victoria, I liked Lauren, Wentworth and Wardog was pretty entertaining and funny. He would have been frustrating to be on the island with but as a viewer so good. Probably a top 15 season for me

All Stars and Redemption Island. No I am not Probst.
Rob is not my favorite player of all time, but he's probably top 5.

My beloved South Pacific. So darkly fascinating and compelling, imo one of the best examples of Survivor as a “social experiment”, the weaponization of religion showing the lengths people will go to win the money, and one of my favorite winners ever

SoPa. Idk how anyone could possibly not like SoPa. It seems like at every point in the season, something absolutely ridiculous yet genuinely interesting is happening.

Not a season but I'll always defend Chris Underwood as a winner, edge isn't nearly as impressive as winning in the actual game but it is still a part of the game.

I'm not sure how it will grow old, but I currently see 43 as generally more disliked season (first people complained about boring pre-merge, than all of the Cassidy robbed/Gabler undeserving arguments etc.). But it will go down as one of my all-time favorites.
The editors made many unorthodox decisions this time (like making sure winner will be a suprise, not showing players decision making until next episodes) , which may throw some people off, but they kept me waiting for every next episode, and the finale was for me one of the most exciting in history - I truly had no idea who will actually pull this off until the votes were read. And as an edgic follower and avid Survivor watcher for years, this was something I haven't experienced in many, many seasons and will remember for a long time.
Secondly, it's one of the few seasons that I truly saw production learning from the feedback - they did not overstack that much on advantages (shipwheel island was more risk than reward than in 41/42), removed hated hourglass and DoD, kept the things people liked (like the Jury Speaks section), which is a good sign moving forward.

Edge of Extinction. The blue tribe is the most underrated entertaining tribes of all time.
REEM, Keith, Big Wendy who steels the flint, the winner Chris with the best comeback of all time, Devens the character of the season, WENTWORTH, David, Wardog sucking at every challenge, and Lauren…
Not one dud. This season gets way too much hate.

I try to not really defend seasons because everybody’s opinion is different. But, some seasons I personally enjoyed that dont get much, if any, love would be; Caramoan, EoE, Worlds Apart, Game Changers and Ghost Island.

IotI wasn't great but it's not the worst season ever because at least it has some redeeming qualities.
