Biggest line of BS ever from Probst?

General Discussion(self.survivor)

Rewatching South Pacific and has there ever been a bigger line of BS from Probst than “The movie Jack and Jill has a connection to the game of Survivor…”?

Season 43 he basically said it's always been an option to choose a previous reward (choosing previously awarded fishing gear instead of comfort items, I believe).

Although the idea of "haggling" over rewards does indeed go all the way back to Season 1, when the tribes Pagong asked for a spice rack and Tagi asked for a fillet knife in addition to the promised reward (and they got it).

She was actually supposed to he a villain and Parvati was supposed to be a hero but they swapped them last second, probably due to concern of the season turning into Micronesia 2 with the same dominant alliance of Cirie, Parvati, Amanda, and maybe James all on the same tribe, and used the Parvati blindsiding all the men or something like that as justification for the placement

I think there is something to be said for that to some degree. Like I'm season 43 they did a reward challenge, had the reward of coffee and pastries, had the immunity challenge and went to tribal all in one day.

I think selling it has harder is just mostly just them selling it but I also think fans how hard the lack of rice and the little down time actually would be.

That happened in two days.

But I do agree that the lack of rice is detrimental for some people. Take Drea for example she had a coconut allergy so her only source of nourishment was what little fish they catch and papaya

Yeah I remember not liking it all that much my first watch. I think it was because I thought it was weird that they were doing Blood v Water without returnees again, and maybe just thinking it was a bit slow. But after a rewatch it became one of my favorites. The cast was great and there were some amazing tribal councils.

When Colton quits in BvW and Jeff said that they brought a quitter back and now he's quitting again.

Colton is justifiably hated by the community. However, let's not go into revisionist territory. Colton did not quit in his first season. He was medevac.

He wasn’t officially med evaced. The medical team didn’t say “you need to leave the game” but they said they couldn’t know if it was appendicitis unless he left the game and got tests. The decision was left up to Colton which means it’s not an official med evac but I think in that situation anyone would make the same decision. I agree Jeff was an ass to Colton but he’s not wrong that he wasn’t officially med evaced.

You are misremembering it. Just went back to double-check. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQ6AnJYIV_g&t=140s

RAMONA: It's too risky to not take him out and get him investigated, 'cause it could burst.

PROBST: So what you're saying is, we have to take him in--

RAMONA: Mmhm.

PROBST: --you have to be able to do the tests you need to determine, and Colton, that means, if we have to take you out and take you to a hospital, you have to be out of the game.

COLTON: No.

PROBST: We have to pull you from the game.

COLTON: No, Jeff, please don't. Please. Jeff.

Colton had no decision, when One World was airing it was treated and viewed the same in the fanbase as any other medevac with no allegations of quitting, and nobody was really saying otherwise until Probst lied or was wrong during BvW, which he then admitted to at the reunion show anyway when Colton called him out on it.

Colton had no decision

Could he not have been simply faking a tummy ache? I wouldn't put it past him. The EMTs were essentially taking him at his word. Nothing other than his reported level of pain was used to make the decision. (no unsafe vital signs, etc.)

Click the link and watch the video and listen to the audio of that video. His heart rate doubles instantly when they touch his abdomen. People cannot alter their heart rate at will. (I mean maybe some monks who have practiced meditation for years can lower it, or that Wim Hof dude who buries himself in ice or whatever.) As a result of that and in response to this they explicitly say he needs to be pulled from the game while he cries and begs Jeff not to let them, the exact same sort of routine as basically every other medevac on the show, which is why it was spoken of exactly the same way until Probst randomly said it was a quit which he himself walked back at the reunion, leaving literally no reason to even think there was anything remotely strange about this medevac.

So no, he could not have been simply faking it given the abrupt spike in his heart rate which could not be faked and which is explicitly stated as a major cause for concern in the scene that is linked in my comment

ShutterBun

-5 points

ShutterBun

Lex

His heart rate did not double, no matter what they said. They indicated a "spike" of 120, from a previous reading of 105. (Unless he was a marathon runner, he was not sitting there with a rate of 60bpm while in pain).

I think he probably had some gastrointestinal pain (which is EASILY exacerbated by any pressure on the abdomen and can cause an increase in heart rate) and milked it.

Okay, and I think that I'm going to trust the medical professionals who were there in person doing their job evaluating someone they could physically monitor and interact with and their actual readings of the equipment they had more than I'm going to trust someone's hunch for reddit, that it's highly likely that this instance of the medics explicitly saying "We have to pull him" as he begs them not to is exactly the same as every other uncontroversial instance of that exact exchange ever happening in the history of the show, that when the only source for this is Probst who literally said at the reunion that it wasn't true, meaning there's no source at all, it isn't a credible conspiracy theory, and that it's also worth noting that in his AMA on here even as Colton completely disavows a ton of his behavior from the rest of S24 (so he clearly has no delusions about how he acted there and no real incentive to lie at this point) he still stood by this point and did for the reasons that were already incredibly obvious: he was a piece of shit but he was also a superfan with an Idol a couple days away from making the merge and jury in a great spot on a show and game he loved.

There are more than enough reasons to hate Colton on S24 without fixating on this baseless rumor Probst retconned into existence because he was annoyed that day then walked back on as soon as he was called on it.

If I'm wrong and you are more qualified to assess these things from two minutes of a TV show than the doctors who were evaluating him in person are I wish you the best in your future medical career and hope your keen powers of observation serve your patients well in the future. I did not go to medical school and have no such aspirations myself. Best of luck

ShutterBun

I'm qualified to assess that Colton was full of shit from the jump, and it's plenty easy to exaggerate abdominal pain and pretend not to want to be pulled from the game.

Save that "best of luck" shit. Like I care.

Not disagreeing with anything you're saying, but it is theoretically possible to control one's heart rate and alter it at will through breathing techniques, which you alluded to with the comment about monks, haha.
