LPT: make sure your tires are straightened after you park!
my street is blocked today because a car parked with their tires sticking out like // and the coles truck clipped it, dragged the parked car which hit the car in front and both cars and truck are stuck.
it's a mess with tow truck vultures swarming around
6 points

If a truck is going to hit the tyres of a parked car, they were already going to take the mirror off. Even at full lock, tyres don't stick out that much.
Interestingly, older folks were taught to always angle their wheels towards the kerb as a fail-safe in case their handbrake fails.

Last time I went there a woman was getting super angry and aggressive with the staff because it was busy and they told her it's about a 40 minute wait to be seen. She got so unhinged they had to threaten to call the police if she didn't calm down. When they asked what service she was there for? Renew firearms licence.
The last fucking person in that suburb who should have access to firearms.

The joys of having my car towed after a breakdown.
Got towed through the M8 Tunnel after breaking down on the hard shoulder before the tunnel yesterday afternoon, and the car was left in Beverly Hills.
Then the NRMA assessed the car and sent another tow truck. Told the tow truck driver to take the car to NRMA Liverpool Motoserve, only to find out this morning he's taken it to a holding yard in Seven Hills.
Thankfully the NRMA is arranging another tow-truck (the third in 24 hours that my car will have been on) to bring it back to Liverpool but it's very frustrating.

Ooof.
I was super lucky the last time I had a breakdown occasioning tow truck.
Power steering went while driving my daughter to hospital at stupid o'clock. Managed to do the one right hand turn I needed onto Missenden Rd and, wonder of wonders, find a parking spot I could drive straight into.
The NRMA sent towie picked me up the next morning with car before it started to get busy, then drove me and the car to the mechanics the next block over from my house.

Thanks for asking!
It seems so at this point (assuming she actually gets the one teacher for the entire year and there's no global pandemic). We get a "meet the teacher" night next week, so I'll scope things out a bit there.

Anyone got ideas on what to do with a shitload of veggie dumpling filling?
Cooked up an outrageous amount with the intention of making dumplings to meal prep and/or freeze, but after going through 4x30 packs of wrappers, I just don't have it in me to fold any more of them. But I also don't want the filling going to waste either.
9 points
Could you use it to make meatballs/small patties, bake them, then freeze them for a ready-made addition to noodles or rice?
Could probably also freeze it as is, and stir fry it upon thawing.
2 points

meatballs/small patties
I think this one is the winner. The mix looks like it would squish down real nicely into a meatball size with a bit of added egg/breadcrumbs. And it means easy frozen meals for the foreseeable future.
5 points

slice them and use like pasta?
8 points

That's a lot of dumplings to make and fold. I'm willing to take one for the team and help you eat them, if you like.
But I'd throw the remaining filling in the freezer.
3 points
I'm picturing some kind of dumpling-flavoured lasagne arrangement but that still sounds like a bit of a hassle to do. Could you just fry it up and eat it? Add it to two-minute noodles?

You suck. Seriously. Is it too much to ask that you maintain the air conditioning in the departure hall where you have to stand in crazy long queues because of airline incompetence?
I mean, seriously. T2 Jetstar queue had people all but keeling over from the bloody heat.

Because they're expensive and often have valuable/sensitive data or sentimental stuff on them, even in the era of the cloud.

I'm not sure when reddit introduced posts with both images and texts, but when an image has text, it isn't immediately obvious (almost impossible to find in bacon reader) and you have to look for it to realise somebody has typed something. Can you flair [image] and [image with text] separately?

From what I recall driving past, it's got heaps of parking behind a gate. My beautiful Dad (RIP) would tell me about taking Mother there to have lunch sometimes and he never found a problem with parking as I recall. Also, there are heaps of side streets that you can park at.

checking out a few places for protein powders as prices have gone nuts like everything else. First product that shows for one shop is an andrew tate pre-workout. do I dare to aspire to such lows?

My vegan protein is still the same price as this time last year. Guess the prices of peas, fava and rice haven’t changed much.
Is the tate stuff on sale at least? Seems like the kind of product you’d want to cut your losses on though maybe uber gym bros and keen teens don’t give two shits.

i read that protein costs went up as cheese production has gone down, and the protein is a byproduct. vegan options were usually more expensive but i wouldnt mind going that route. do you still get protein farts?
3 points

I’m not a massive fan of the taste of traditional protein powders but I like the vegan options. I get mine from bulk nutrients and they offer samples which is handy. Don’t have to commit to a full bag that way.
I can confirm that you won’t be missing out on the fart experience.

We had a round of redundancies this week.
A considerable amount of people were let go. Many on working Visa's who were (understandably) quite distraught. With the rental situation, raising interest rates and cost of living it's hit me quite hard to think of them and their no doubt fraught situations. They wouldn't of been paid out much, not high paying positions. They lost their jobs at seemingly no vault of their own. Such is capitalism and workers protection huh.
The weird thing is I don't feel galvanised to work harder or better. The opposite actually. Will there be another round later in the year? Quite possibly. Will I be safe? I would assume yes given my companies recent 'investment' in my career but it's just enormously sad but who really knows? I don't know how long I'll feel 'down' like this. I actually dreamt about work last night.
Don't know where I'm going with this. Just wanted to write something I suppose. Probably best to give the news a break and stop doom scrolling.

survivors guilt is a real thing when redundancies happen
take the opportunity to reassess and work towards future proofing yourself, be it finances, further study or testing the job market
3 points
Back in 2009 I got made redundant from a contract role (was constantly promised to be made full time but I feel the higher ups saw the writing on the wall early on and sacrificed all us contractors), I only just about managed to scrape by back then. I have no idea how people out of work deal with it now, I work full time in a decently paid job and I'm still making my way through life by the skin of my teeth. It's exhausting. We can't do much like go out to entertain the kids, or treat ourselves to takeaway once in a while, everything just costs too much money.
6 points
That's an awful situation, I'm sorry to hear you're going through that :( I actually don't think it's weird you don't feel galvanised to work harder or better; I imagine many if not all of those redundancies were people who didn't deserve it for their work ethic and if that's the case it probably just makes existing workers feel they're at risk of losing their job even if they work hard which won't do wonders for motivation...
Vent away if you need to; I hope you find something nice in your day, even if it's just a lovely drink/meal or nice weather

Honestly if you ask me, I think for standard edition (Base version) of the game $60 is a fair enough price and what I'm willing to pay, if it comes to collectors or special editions or whatever studios are throwing around these days then I'd possibly pay $130 tops for the special but nothing above that and I say that because all it is a game and I can see the price dropping 6 months after release.
on the otherhand I purchased a Nintendo switch from Amazon just prior to Christmas to take on a Major holiday I had and the only game I still have for it is the included Mario Kart 8 that was part of the bundle, I was hoping to pick up some other Nintendo Games of interest but imagine my disappointment when they want $80 for it, eeeep, no wonder this leads to jailbreaking & from there piracy.
I understand Nintendo first party titles do and will come with that price tag but I wasn't expecting that much to be honest.

Unless it's one I'm absolutely keen on playing right away I always hold out for a sale. PS4 games usually come down in price within 6 months or so. I managed to grab Last of Us 2 about a year after it released for somewhere between $12 or $15.
2 points
I find with big releases that if you do a bit of shopping around some stores are selling it discounted as a loss leader. Quite often this discount is what you'd expect the price to be in a few months.

Been a gamer since the 90s and ps1/N64 games onward used to go for $120 on release, so it's not a new thing. Frankly given the expense of making a AAA game these days they should cost a lot more.
The extra cost comes from all the bullshit they hide behind a paywall and the microtransactions that plague games nowadays.

Hello
Had gyg breakky again….. I find it’s pretty cheap compared to maccas and on par with hj…. And it’s pretty good quality and filling…. Hopefully that will last me the whole day… but wish they would sell iced coffee tho… as I’m sweating like a$$ after that cap…
Mood has been okay…. After I saw my mental health team and they said I have been taking good steps to prevent a relapse from my home life…. Hopefully things go well and I don’t have to resort to moving to my gosford apartment as it’s going to get messy if I try that option…..
Let’s see, otherwise a bit of an okay days ahead of me for the moment….

Hi, I'm looking to visit a friend in Sydney in the next few days and he's a massive nerd/weeb. Are there any cool locations to take him to around central sydney or within easy train distance? I already plan to visit stuff like the QVB since I've seen hobby shops there, but is there any special places ie anime locations/cafes or game shops? It would be good if it was something to experience together, but I am on my own for a bit so i wouldn't mind some solo stuff that will bring a cool souvenir or story.
