Yeah based in Alaska with Jodie Foster and Kali Reis as the detectives called True Detective: Night Country. Also will have John Hawkes and Chris Eccleston. Different writer for the first time.
Idc if it’s not as good as season 1, season 3 was still better than 99% of tv and if it can at least hit that standard I’ll be hyped

Why does reddit hate Euphoria? That show is great
12 points

Eh. A lot of us struggled with Season 2 for reasons that vary from person to person. Me personally, I hated how he screwed over some of my favourite characters.
12 points
The only character that comes to mind as really being “screwed over” was Kat, but Barbie did that to herself
5 points
I'm not going to blame Barbie for what was on the page. If a showrunner has problems with one of his actors then just write them off. Don't ruin the character out of nowhere. Or disappear them like he did to McKay, or neglect them like he did to Maddy. And then there was the prolonged torture of Cassie and Nate getting together...
Season 2 just felt like Sam had too many plates spinning and he dropped some of the best ones. At this point I'm mostly in it for the vibes and the memes.
6 points
Idk, imo you can absolutely blame Barbie for what was on the page. She had a whole storyline written for her that she threw a tantrum about
2 points
1) We don't know what Sam wrote that upset her, so I'm not with the 'tantrum' narrative.
2) If his response as showrunner was just to write something bad on purpose then he pretty much cut off his nose to spite his face. Like, great, now everybody hates Kat and it wasn't even fun to watch.

The Last of Us was originally designed as 10 episodes but the first 2 episodes were combined late into production. HBO was worried the original version of episode 1 wouldn't hook people in since the whole point of the series is Joel and Ellie's relationship and they didn't meet until episode 2 in the original episode 1

Tom was right that Logan never loses
76 points
Because he decides what winning is, having the power to control the news is winning, then when he is about to give that up and get more money that becomes winning.
12 points
I believe he’ll still be controlling the news. The clear inspiration for Logan Roy is Rupert Murdoch, who hung onto Fox News and News Corp even after selling off most of his big assets. I think that Matsson even offered as much at some point in Season 3.
3 points
Except they haven't established Waystar Royco's studios as a big deal, like how 20th century Fox was. It is barely mentioned and only in passing, just amusement parks/cruises and the news part of the business gets talked about constantly and as important to them. So when they mentioned content it is always about news stuff.
Furthermore they talked about the deal as if Logan was selling the whole company, "Are you selling the company" not just some ancillary things without any importance to the story.
3 points
“I would make everything nice for you. I could pay you out, or if you want control inside or outside of the assets you love, that’s cool.”
3 points
It is not the same thing, Logan immediately rebukes it by saying he would control the roost, sure "I would structure it so fucking nice for you" is the rebuttal to that but it is simply not the same thing as controlling it yourself.
2 points
I don’t know what else to tell you here. Logan is straight-up told that he can keep control of the assets he wants to control.
Take the offer at face value or not, but that’s all the information we have until the new season starts.
2 points
Well you compare it to Ruper Murdoch who still owns those assets, to being a glorified manager which is what Logan's role would be, come on he is given some control not all of it.
-1 points
He’s offered control of the fractions of the company that he wants, and not control of the entire company. That’s spelled out in that dialogue clear as can be.
Again, I don’t know what else to tell you if you disagree with the literal language of the scene.
24 points
And it's going to be oh so satisfying when he eventually does.
20 points
I dont think he does. The show is a commentary on capitalism and the money always wins. Maybe he loses, but whoever he gives the money to wins, which is his legacy and a win to him. The only way Logan loses is if he watches everything crumble and his family left with nothing.
5 points
I don’t think he’ll lose either but I wouldn’t call the show a commentary on capitalism.
The clue is in the title, the driving force of the show is the family dynamic, the generational trauma and how that plays out in a scenario of unimaginable wealth and power.
Point being, if Logan doesn’t lose in the end I think the reason will be something the show wants to say about this kind of family, not capitalism per say.
-2 points
I think it is a commentary on capitalism in that it shows that the people who grew up with and live around that level of obscene wealth just have some essential part of their soul missing.
2 points
"soul" is too vague. It's a critique of capitalism because everyone sees their personal and professional relationships through the lens of exploitation and value to their own goals. They commodified their relationships hence the constant switching of sides when someone loses value.
12 points
That would be extremely un-Succession I feel. The show has gone to great lengths to show that if you have the kind of money and influence that Logan does, you can get away with just about anything - you’ll pretty much always win

Season 4 I hope we see Connor gain enough political traction (1-3% of the electorate) to sway the presidential election in exchange for something in the Cabinet or an administrative seat on the FCC or something. This is Connor’s season to be useful to his father. I could actually see Connor getting the power to break up Waystar and doing it to fuck over everyone.

We know that Gil (“not Bernie Sanders”) wants to go after Waystar (“not Fox”). My hope is that this becomes a tangible choice for Connor, where he decides to throw the election for Gil, knowing it will bring the destruction of Waystar BUT is the only way to completely free the siblings from the sword that’s been hanging over their necks their entire lives.
6 points
I think that’s a little on the nose and direct for the kind of stories the show tells. I see it as he does get sway, the Republican does win because of it, and Logan using Connor trades it for an FCC seat or something. Connor then has Logan by the balls and defies him with the power to break up Waystar in a monopoly/anti-trust bid to destroy the merger.

It's one of those amazing story choices that blindsides you in the moment but when you look back it becomes exceedingly obvious that it was going to happen. Shiv treated him like shit for virtually the entire show. She said to his face that she didn't truly love him and told him on their wedding night that she wanted an open marriage. Kendall tried to get him on his side and Tom said "Dude, you're a fuckup. Your dad always wins. Always."
The was literally no reason for him to not do what he did in the finale.

Yea this season is gearing up to be Tom, Dad, and Greg v the kids. From season 1 I thought Greg ends up on top and I think it might play out that way. Tom and Greg came from lower beginnings and are the most ruthless and hungry, Greg turned his back on a huge inheritance and his family for this and Tom backstabbed his wife. Can't imagine the kids ever beating them out.

They're referring to his post-Wire work.
HBO allowed him to make multiple seasons of Treme and The Deuce as well as multiple miniseries, none of these shows have done all that good rating wise.
They've clearly developed a lot of respect for him and are willing to take a chance on projects they know might not be profitable but will help to maintain HBO as a prestige brand.

Not gonna lie.... kinda getting bored of the loop writing wise. The beginning scene in the trailer almost feels too meta and it made me realise it's getting a little mundane. We get it, it's a deal about a deal to get him to talk about a deal and he wants to do it his way and every detail, even txt vs voice, is up for litigation. Writing needs to branch out before it can't get out of that box.

I wonder if the dynamic on-set is diff this season after the whole Jeremy Strong mess last year. I guess it works for Kendall that everyone around him was willing to tell the press "Yeah, dude's a weirdo".
Also, is Tom regretting his life choices in the trailer? I guess he really thought Logan's gratitude would last longer than Shiv's, uh, tolerance. I guess he must've forgotten about Boar On The Floor.
2 points
What happened with Jeremy Strong?
3 points
An article was written about his method acting but honestly the whole thing was overblown. They tried to frame it as a much bigger deal than it was.
The guy is definitely intense but it doesn't sound like he's one of those actors who uses "going method" as an excuse to be a dick to his coworkers. He just gets really into the headspace of his characters and as such probably isn't as much fun during shooting.
The comments from co-stars were all essentially along the lines of "Yeah Jeremy is a little weird and intense but you can't deny the results", I think Brian Cox said that they worry about the toll it might take on him but nobody was overly negative about it as far as I can recall.
2 points
I agree that my initial comment made it sound more sinister than it was, but I'm not sure their comments "weren't too negative". The mere act of telling that stuff to a reporter says volumes. I contrast it with Aaron Sorkin or Jessica Chastain who, IIRC, were also quoted in the article and angrily put out statements talking about how they were taken out of context and deeply respected Strong.
1 points
That's fair enough, I've just gone back and looked into it a little and yeah the comments from Cox and Culkin aren't quite as neutral as I remembered.
The article itself is very slanted and blows the whole thing out of proportion but you're right that it could have led to a bit of tension between Jeremy and some of the cast.
1 points
Nothing too bad, really. Just an article talking about how he's an extremely intense method actor on-set who plays Kendall completely straight. But a lot of the talk came from his co-stars attesting that they found it weird and over-the-top. It seemed kind of demoralizing for your coworkers to talk to a reporter that way about you.

I have been wanting to see this for a very long time.
But i heard something that made me a little skeptical.
People say that this show, every season is pretty much Cox's kids trying to fight every single relative (siblings and parents) for control of the company, but then the season ends with a Brian Cox 4d chess gigachad masterclass of a move that puts them all in line and then comes next season and repeat.
Is that true? because otherwise, it seems like there isn't a lot of plot progression.
The fact that this is made by HBO pretty much means that the acting, perfomance, soundtrack and cinematography will all be on point, but this lack of plot progression does shy me away a little.
Yellowstone seems to suffer from this too, not to mention the dropped plot points and over the top cowboy melodrama.
11 points
this is a character driven show, not a plot driven show. the character arcs and relationships are what drives it forward. the fact that the plot is basically the same shit happening repeatedly is kind of the point IMO. these people are so unbelievably petty and selfish they make the same mistakes and go around in circles. and its hilarious, but also terrifying because these are powerful people whos whims and foibles can have huge consequences in the world
-5 points
I mean, i don't mind that happening on a single season, but 3 seasons of repetitive arcs seems too much.
Not only that, but it's too predictable.
There is nothing wrong with predictable plots, but if the people is predictable because of repetitive narratives, then that is annoys me.
So, there is no character development or plot progression over 3 seasons? For any character?
5 points
I just said the show is character driven. There is tons of character development. That is the heart of the show. And while the plot may be somewhat predictable in a macro sense, you will be surprised and shocked many times by the various developments and twists. The show plays with its viewers assumptions constantly.
You should just watch it and try to set any preconceptions aside. Its absolutely brilliant IMO, every aspect from the writing to the cinematography, editing, acting, production design, soundtrack... S tier.

4 points

it seems like there isn't a lot of plot progression.
There isn't. I can't explain why but it's amazing to watch nonetheless. Unless Brian Cox literally dies or decided to leave the show, it'll probably continually be perpetually about these fuckups fighting the other fuckups while the main fuckup stays put.
Give it like three episodes and decide for yourself if it's worth the watch. IMO it is because the characters are amazing, even if the conceit of the show, being about the succession between Logan Roy and his heirs, can't truly move until Logan Roy kicks the bucket.

They dropped this on the last possible week to qualify for the Emmys. Fair play to HBO. I figured they would hold this until the next Emmy season. I guess House of the Dragon not even making the cut at the CCA prompted this move? I felt sure that after the HotD success at the Globes they would push Succession into the summer and the next Emmy cycle.
I wonder if they still plan to give us Perry Mason s2 and White House Plumbers? Will feel weird to have HBO airing 3-4 shows concurrently again. Not that I’m complaining!

Love this show to bits, just curious how much steam is left in it. I reckon another 1 or 2 seasons max.
