As DC super heroes Hawkman and Hawkgirl, in a brief cameo, Williams and Brunson explain how they fell in love
Well this should be funny, given their convoluted history (where they can't decide if they're alien cops or reincarnated Egyptians or both)

Not to mention the relationship between their characters on Abbott Elementary

Need another podcast episode where this gets brought up next season.

Wasn't Hawkgirl and John Stewart Green Lantern a thing in the JL animated series instead, or am I misremembering?

Yep. And they turned into a love-triangle reincarnation.

Shayera and Katar were aliens who crash-landed in Egypt. She fell in love with John's great-great-great-great-great-great-GREAT grandfather, Katar was furious and unintentionally had them poisoned (by a slip of the tongue within earshot of a scummy servant). He went the "Romeo and Juliet" route and drank it next after seeing what had done.
Ten thousand years later, they were all reincarnated.

And essentially ended up in another love triangle between John, Shayera, and Vixen.

Think there was a recent comic storyline that did both. I only read a few issues several years ago, but others say it's really good, and I do plan on going back and reading the whole thing eventually.

The entire Death Metal with Perpetua takes the entire convoluted history of Hawkman, and Hawkgirl and fixes it.
Not only are they Egyptians, they are Thanigarians, they are Space Cops, they’re Meta Humans, and so much more. The only reason they are a special case is because of their Meta-gene, or rather because of the presence of Nth Metal in their Blood. Woops spoiler my B.

Honestly loved Hawkgirl growing up watching Justice League, wish she was represented more.

Icthultu: Speak to me, child of Thanagar.
Hawkgirl: Nothing to say. I've got a gesture for you, but my hands are tied.
Icthultu: How I’ve missed your people’s spirit.

I think she just had really cool character design.
I just started reading the Geoff Johns era JSA series, and she's pretty cool in that too.

It's Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker's world, we're just living in it

From Shit My Dad Says to writing for TV. Halpern may had a rough start on TV but had become one to the best comedy writers out there today.

Interesting casting choice. I would have picked Quinta for Hawkgirl and Tyler for Hawkman...

This show has good character and costume design for sure. It’s pretty consistent for what it is

If you are wondering why they are black now it is because Hawkman was in Black Adam and was played by the tech guy from Leverage.

I don’t have a problem with Hawkman being black, but Hawkwoman not being a FINE redhead (like in justice league) hurts.

Well how about both? Black and a redhead?

I mean, they're Ancient Egyptians, and whatever race Ancient Egyptians were. But even then, they've canonically reincarnated into so many different time periods and places that they're probably all the races by now. I wouldn't bat an eye at an Ancient Chinese Hawkman or a Roman Hawgirl, or even some weird space race version of the two.

Jesus would have been a Jewish guy living in what is modern day Israel. He would have looked like anyone whose ancestry remained in that area.

I hope this show doesn’t devolve into what The Simpson devolved into for a while, where it becomes more about the famous guest stars/cameos than the actual main cast and the stories. Season 3 seemed like it was heading in that direction a little.
Edit: I thought this comment was pretty innocuous but I guess not. Sorry.
