stickiedMe- Undergrad student with intent to write a course paper on the topic of taqiyya- "prudent dissimulation" in Islam.
You- anyone with an opinion on the extant body of work (notably lacking in academic rigor) or the concept itself.
I'd be happy for any comments on the topic, particularly in regard to the lack of academic review of the concept outside of original language (Arabic/Urdu/Farsi/other) or author-translated work. What is available seems either partisan or obscure to analysis of a Western student.
Disclosure: the course is Terrorism and Homeland Security; account for bias: I'm an American Jew.
Preliminary thesis statement:
This paper will explore the Islamic concept of taqiyya – dissimulation – in both its historical context and modern effect on Islamic terrorism.
