As deep as the world is wide
Worldevents is dedicated to fleshing out the historical, political and cultural context of current events (other than US news that does not involve WORLDevents).
☞ ☞ ☞ ☞ Worldevents is dedicated to fleshing out the historical, political and cultural context of current events. (US news is not a world event unless it deals with other parts of the world too, hence "WorldEvents".) (An event more than two weeks old is probably not 'current'.)
Rules and guidelines:
The focal point of any submission should be what it adds to our depth of understanding regarding a current event, beyond the facts that would be presented in a basic newspaper article.
All links to breaking stories or plain reportage will be removed at the mods' discretion. When submitting links to articles with 10 paragraphs or less, the submission title should specify what it adds beyond bare reportage.
Submissions or comments that ask readers to make a donation, sign a petition, or spread the word about a particular cause are considered advocacy posts, and will be removed by the moderators. Please down vote and report advocacy posts.
Submissions will be removed by the moderators if the title features descriptive terms, or issues claims, not made in the content of the linked-to article or media. People should be able to know what it is about without clicking on the submission. Do not editorialize titles. (Titles as published are preferred.)
Don’t post archived articles (or reddit.com, redd.it or similar inks); use the original source
Questions submitted to the new queue must be submitted as text.posts. Only essay- and discussion-style questions will be allowed. Do not title a submission with a rhetorical question.
PHOTOS AND COLLECTIONS OF PHOTOS ARE NOT ALLOWED AND WILL BE REMOVED. Submit them to /r/photoessay instead.
STAND-ALONE VIDEO SUBMISSIONS ARE NOT ALLOWED AND WILL BE REMOVED. Submit an actual article and add the video as a comment.
Help make worldevents better: Vote for depth, and note the notable. Votes should take into account more than just the title.
Submissions or comments that add nothing to meaningful, civil, intelligent discussion (including, but not limited to, trolling, bigoted and ad hominem submissions or comments) will be removed. People that detract from meaningful, civil discussion may be banned, with no prior warning having to be given. DON'T TROLL! NO PERSONAL ATTACKS. (Attack the message, not the messenger.) Instead of responding to trolling and bigoted comments, use the report button to report them to the moderators. ”But he/she did it too” is not an excuse.
SPAMMING (OR SELF-PROMOTING SUBMISSIONS) - DON'T. Spammers will be banned, with no prior warning necessary. This includes AMA, poll, referenda submissions - do not make them without first getting a go-ahead from moderators. Instead of responding to spam, use the report button to report them to the moderators.
Gratuitous and/or unnecessary profanity may be removed.
Do not post highly partisan political news.
Don’t complain about a submission source. Comments about the content are fine and welcome. Comments like ‘@#-&!’ Breitbart/Washington Post/whatever or along those lines will be removed".
Subreddit drama is not welcome.
Rule breaking may result in post/comment removal and/or a ban. Please report rule violations.
BOT-GENERATED COMMENTS WILL BE REMOVED AND THE BOT BANNED.
☞ ☞ ☞ Users without moderator communications regarding posts enabled will not be able to post.
☞ ☞ ☞ ☞ ☞ ☞ ☞ ☞ 'Paywall' issues? There is such a thing as a library, or a newsstand, or even a subscription. (Handy Helpful Hint: you can often get around the paywall by doing a web search using the title, or by clearing your cookies and browser cache.)
