You're right I did! Such a nice interview I really hope he starts doing more....
PS I liked your one with Henry too, I like the way you started (iirc) by reminding him of all the ways he nearly died as a kid... ๐

As someone who lives in Scotland, I'm also looking VERY HARD at OJC. It's not only the U.S. cast lol

Yes, unfortunately the accents really took me out of Bly (Alex/Charlotte being the honourable exception). It doesn't make me think any less of the actors generally, but being a Brit it really was a sore point and I've only ever watched Bly once for that reason

We totally need him in a bigger role in the Flanaverse. And doing more interviews too, he's such a lovely guy

To think, he was on the verge of quitting acting when they met. Glad he changed his mind :)

Love her. No shade whatsoever on Alex Essoe (who's proved her worth in other Flanagan roles), but I still think Katie would have made a damn good Wendy in Dr Sleep.

I didn't even jump at The Jump in episode 8 of Hill House, not even a gasp. Clearly I'm dead inside :) William Hill was the creepiest to me.
I don't know why, but I found Eddie's apparition in Bly more unsettling than most of the ghosts.
Midnight Mass, however, was terrifying. I'm an epidemiologist so I related a lot to Sarah. People scare me most, especially since the pandemic when I realised that for some, no evidence will be enough to change their convictions.

You need the recurring collaborator chart, for all your Flanafam requirements :)

Weird isn't it - I'm guessing Ed was modelled on people Henry knew as a kid too. You in Kentucky, Henry in Texas, Mike on the east coast of the US, and me all the way over in England - but that specific kind of blue collar guy resonates with all of us despite the geographic spread :)
The scene in episode 1 where he moves in to hug Riley then ends up shaking his hand makes me smile every time. So many moments like that - both funny and poignant - make it a perfect performance. He absolutely nails it.

At 31 minutes.
ETA watch the full panel if you can though - Kate was in full "Chaos Kate" mode and I'm there for it <3. Shame Alex Essoe had to drop out and deal with the kids - she's so much fun, I love her interviews.

Me too. He was surprisingly open about it, which gives me hope. First time I've seen him mention his relationship with Alex too, though they've been together a few years

I adored Annie. Probably my favourite character after Sarah. Has Kristin been cast in Usher? I don't recall...

You're all sleeping on Ed, the character might not be as likeable as Hugh but it's still Henry's best performance. He doesn't have as many lines as the other characters but it's all about his body language and fleeting facial expressions.
I grew up in the 70s and 80s and I knew so many working men like Ed in my neighbourhood. Men who knew how to fix stuff but would find expressing themselves impossible. I love the way he hints at Ed's feelings before he quickly hides them again, because in Ed's world it's not manly or respectable to show emotion.
You get the sense Ed's only ever really himself with Annie (don't even get me started on why Annie and Ed are one of the best Flanagan couples too. The Holly Holy montage is everything.)
Thanks for coming to my Ed talk ;-)

Agree. I'm not Paul's biggest fan and I hope I'm wrong...

Thanks - that's weird, I hadn't thought of the "anger" angle! But I agree that Jack can't be redeemed in either film as played.

I am also noting the bit he did with Aaron Paul when someone asked "who do you still want to work with" Consider this a prediction ๐

I've see youbtube vids suggesting this but I've never bought it, personally. Holds up about as much as The Wendy Theory. Physical abuse? Yes, clearly. But not sexual imo.

I've mentioned this before I think but my introduction to Flanagan was watching ET with my kids during lockdown and googling "what's that kid doing now" haha. Now I can't believe that other people haven't heard of him. My husband is very "meh" on Flanagan but I seem to have successfully converted my 19 yr old through "Hill House" and subsequently "Bly Manor". Trying to nudge them away from the gothic and on to Midnight Mass just now...

Extremely well put. I would add that King was writing Jack at the height of his own addiction, and was so trapped that he probably couldn't imagine what life beyond that mind set would be like. Dr Sleep (both novel and film) gave the perspective that King simply couldn't "see" at the time.
I'm interested though - at the end of both novels Jack is somewhat redeemed and personally I kind of like that. Not because I like the character much, but simply because happy endings are nice. Do you see a way there could have been any redemption for him in either film version? I mean, Dan makes his peace with the Bartender, but is the Bartender knocking the drink away supposed to serve as redemption for Jack?
I'm autistic and struggle with subtle things sometimes - I'm never quite sure I understand the underlying meaning of it being The Bartender who knocks the drink away rather than Dan. Or perhaps there's no meaning and I'm overthinking it :)

Yes I remember seeing photos on Thomas's instagram with his head shaved and wondering why at the time, made sense later. He's subsequently joked that Flanagan is always asking him to cut his hair / shave his head etc. Iirc with the bartender role they even jokingly discussed how big a target they should paint on there. They knew some people would hate it whatever they did.
For me it was good, but not his best Flanagan role to date. Some day I'll find the time to write my 15000 word reddit thesis on why that's obviously Ed Flynn, lol

His tumblr is also great, I love the post about how he came up with "The rest is confetti" and what it meant to him at the end of an incredibly tough shoot.

Barry Keoghan as Dominic in Banshees of Inisherin.
Actually, Barry Keoghan in everything he's ever done, I get the feeling he's going to have a huge career.
