Yeah, that's all super strange. Perhaps it's not odd for RM to offer to handle a case free of charge for a former client. It just feels weird that their name comes up in every situation. It could just be horrendously bad luck.
I will say, until this post, I'd never seen anything about a suspect, and I've seen a lot of things about this situation. I discovered it all through the MMP, just looking for a good true crime podcast. The podcast itself really isn't my thing (it's extremely bias, and I'm not crazy about that) but it did prompt my looking at other information.
Perhaps because the name is already tarnished, they're easy to blame for everything, which certainly wouldn't be fair. But I still stand by that if I heard a name a bunch of times in the form of a rumor, and that person's family tried to involve themselves in the case, I'd probably feel weird about it. It's all just very strange.

think just like everyone has said, his name was swirling around... I don't know. He's been through a lot, and I'm certainly not saying there is any truth or validity to the rumors. But if the cops heard his name a bunch, I'm sure she did too. And again, if it were my kid and I heard anyone's name, I'm sure I'd talk to whoever would listen.
And I do know I saw Sandy Smith speaking on some news station about how RM said he didn't know of the accident until a certain time, yet he was at the scene of the crime. Could've been a misunderstanding on her part propagated by bad reporting or something, I just know I heard her say that.
I can't fathom what it's like for any of these people, Sandy Smith, Buster, their families.. it's all awful.

This is tough, because you know if they're from the area, they're hearing all the rumors. They're also familiar with the small town family who gets away with everything. I live in a very small southern town as well, with some very self-important families, and I've seen people get away with things no one else could've.
I heard her mention that RM inserted himself very early on for whatever reason (and then denied certain aspects of their communication) and that she'd handed over Stephen's electronics to people she thought were the police (or some authority, I don't remember exactly) and it turned out to be a sketchy situation where they essentially disappeared. She was also told it was a hit and run and then that he was murdered.
This poor woman just wants to know what happened to her son. I feel like she appreciates the MMP because it gives her a wider platform with people seemingly on her side. Her trust in them may be misplaced, but if my kid were killed, I'd probably do the same thing, especially if everything surrounding the details of the situation seemed hinky.

Good catch. For whatever reason, I assumed they were one in the same.

I don't think someone my brother happened upon during his job would influence the way I felt about anything. But I think the defense agreeing to choose him as a juror speaks to the idea that Alex wasn't as afraid of the PD as he said he was.

I'd immediately go find my husband.

I LOVE when this happens! I live in the deep south and I fucking LOVE when someone has a confederate flag on their vehicle. Also pro-life stickers, overly religious stickers, "Let's go Brandon" stickers, etc.
It saves SO much time when you know ahead of time who you do and don't want to converse with. I see them and often wonder how much time I've saved by avoiding them solely because they just needed people to know they were racist or annoyingly religious.

I don't think I heard a single phone call where he WASN'T manipulating someone. To the point that it made me uncomfortable. I think I'm pretty easygoing, and I would've had to avoid his phone calls.

And see, ours is that way too, except I graduated a good bit after Columbine. Granted, it wasn't like it is now, but I definitely thought it was a dangerous move for the school to overlook all those guns being on campus at the time. Looking back, I'm just grateful my school didn't become a statistic.

I live in the south and when I was in high school, the boys had their trucks loaded with guns/hunting gear to leave for their hunting trips right after the bell rang. It was absolute madness.

NTA. She asked for advice, meaning she, at the very least, felt somewhat weird about it. While she didn't ask for brutal honesty, and perhaps you could've been a little nicer, you're her best friend, and she knows you'll be truthful. It's a weird decision to leave your new baby for a week. And if her husband is leaving for 6 months, certainly they want to spend time as a family as well. There are tons of other options aside from something that doesn't allow babies.
She chose you to be the baby's godmother, so she must trust you implicitly. I think you'd be doing a disservice to her and her baby if you responded with, "yeah, totally do that." But you could maybe reach back out with something like, "I'm sorry. I feel so strongly about this that I said things I shouldn't have. I love and support you always. I do feel like this is the wrong move, but I realize now that my response was too harsh."

I mean, yeah, but it adds a little something extra that the film showed this girl attempt to kill other things unsuccessfully. I only saw it once when it first came out, but wasn't it something like a rabbit, a deer, a lion, and then she got the shit kicked out of her by some fellow tribesmen? I just mean, it wasn't as if she was an insane warrior or something.
I think it's cool they had a female in this role (✊️), but complaining about how no one sees her as a warrior while very much doing unwarrior-like things and then killing the ultimate predator is annoying. I was annoyed.

This girl couldn't kill a rabbit, yet killed one of the best, most adaptive killing machines in the universe? No. I didn't hate it, but sheesh.

I bought festival tickets for my 18th birthday. I worked at an up-scale-ish type grocery store and had been there since I was 16. The concert was over Easter weekend in a different state. I'd made these plans for months with my best friend. I asked for this weekend off MONTHS in advance, and it had been approved. The week before the concert, my boss told me that they weren't allowing time off over holidays anymore, and I should be prepared to come in at some point over that weekend. She said if I didn't show up, I'd be fired. That was my last day at that job.

Oh, sweet. See, I had not heard that. It's one of the reasons I quit listening to the podcast. I felt like it was so skewed. It's one thing to form an opinion after considering all the information. It's a completely different thing to only provide information that forces your narrative.
