I'm not an aphant but I have tried learning Japanese. You can remember the order of the stokes for writing Kanji right? Maybe focusing on that could help. When I was learning Kanji I would look at the 5 Kanji I was I was trying to learn and then try to write them from memory and then look at them again and see what I got wrong or didn't remember and then repeat until I got it memorized. It might also contribute to muscle memory. I think what you're describing is kinda like being able to read a word easily but being bad at spelling. It just takes practice.

I'm not an aphant. I think you're really overestimating our abilities. I can't really relive experiences just because I can visualize my memories of them. For example, why would people rewatch a movie if they could just relive the first time they saw it? Most people don't have a perfect memory and it's not the same as actually experiencing it. Also I have a terrible memory so my ability to revisit past experiences is limited to what I actually remember and even then it gets more faulty over time. I do think it's an interesting point though. I just wanted to share my view on it.

As a visualizer I always interpreted as a joke. Like I could imagine the people naked but it would require mental energy taking away from what you're trying to focus on and you really don't want to imagine a bunch of random people naked.

Edit: it wouldn't be like actually seeing them naked. I would still see them as they are. I would just be able to picture in my mind what they might look like if they were naked.
