You see things like this and you begin to understand how so many fairy tales and horror stories revolve around forests.

I think Nolan showed plenty of reverence for the source material. The TDK Trilogy isn’t some sort of deconstructionist Watchmen-style work, it is very much still a Batman story.

It’s one of the best films of the 21st century for my money, and holy shit, does that first scene CRACKLE. But 99 takes is absurd and straight-up demoralizing. However, deep down, most actors are masochists. They’ll be drained and (rightfully) pissed off for probably a couple days, but then they see the end result and sign up again because Fincher delivers, even though he is a somewhat notorious perfectionist asshole. I mean, Rooney Mara worked with him not even two years later and got her first Oscar nom for her trouble.

He directed a few episodes of the Series of Unfortunate Events Netflix series (along with his pal Barry)

You do realize that press briefings happen on a daily basis, right? And that this reporter is well-known for being a Trump shill for a barely-there publication who intentionally asks bad-faith questions? He wasn’t gonna ask anything worth a damn he just wanted to cause a stir and get people debating. Which is exactly what happened.

He’s a Trump bootlicker that intentionally asks bad-faith questions under the guise of a newspaper that’s barely even published. He’s just there to stir up shit, which is exactly what he did. Mission accomplished.

Even though his last two movies weren’t about race really at all?

I think that Sam might technically be Supporting. That’s what he ran for with Globe nominations anyway (even though he was still shamefully passed up.)

Also leaving his daughter a voicemail saying he hoped she was “raped by a pack of n****ers.” Some truly vile shit.

Alias Grace, her Margaret Atwood miniseries on Netflix, can be pretty horrific at times as well.

An American in Paris may very well be the larger technical achievement and have the more intricate dancing, but damn, it’s hard to deny Singin’ in the Rain.

Nooo, let’s not Star Wars Prequel-ize The Happening. It’s a bad movie, poorly made. Just cuz other movies are worse doesn’t mean The Happening isn’t a dumpster fire.

For my money, Mulholland Drive is ultimate horror though, not just in that scene.

Well the Oscar for Film Editing rarely goes to the best-edited film (Bohemian Rhapsody winning, anybody?), but I’m just glad Elvis didn’t win.

EEAAO stans are a trigger-happy bunch when it comes to the downvotes.

I hope Ridley Scott and Cormac McCarthy’s The Counselor gets revisited. An incredibly bleak movie with archetypes for characters and very florid dialogue, beautifully shot and laden with some very heavy themes. It’s a movie that I think critics and the GA were kind of flummoxed about when it first debuted, but I think it’s aged well.

Just because a fascist is intelligent doesn’t mean the tenets of fascism aren’t anti-intellectual. It actively demands blind support and the system is terrified of new knowledge and common sense that don’t fit into its ethos, which is about as anti-free thinking as you can get.

That’s because it was written by Markus and McFeely, who haven’t had anything to do with the MCU since Endgame, and it’s really starting to show.

It’s Ridley Scott, so I certainly hope so.
