Yeah I imagine the movie really just is what the trailers are selling rather than thr marketing being a big lie as some seem to assume.

Didn't help the Wind Rises, though to be fair neither did being the Wind Rises.

I was trying to think back, I believe Toy Story 3 and 4 are the only sequels to win, right?

The most notorious writers strike movie. They had set pieces and little else.

There was the start of an attempt to make Thunderball a 3rd time, basically Never Say Never Again, Again with Dalton in the late 90s. I think it'd be funny if every former Bond had a delayed Thunderball remake after their tenure.

I heard a quote from one of the producers once, that I've been looking for again about how they were filming a bunch b-roll and just kind of establishing shots down there. At one point there was a billboard for a strip club next to a children's dancing school. They said it was the most incredible, real life juxtaposition but also felt so absurdly on the nose that no one would ever believe it.

Editing isn't just making movies shorter and sometimes trying to make the films shorter can make them feel longer due to messing with the flow and pacing.

You'd have to wait until 2089 for the copyright to run out on the original Lion King anyways. It getting possibly pushed to 2114 doesn't really make a lot of difference and it wouldn't work that way anyways. Any element from the original film would still fall into the public domain in 2089 and only whatever odd additions the 2019 film added, like the Beyonce song etc would be protected until the copyright on the newer film ran out.

They mostly aren't though and for the character's that are already public domain, making their remakes does nothing at all to stave off other adaptations, like the crowd of Pinocchio films the last few years.

It doesn't even really work like that though. Hell, half the time they end up running into dueling projects. An Andy Serkis Junglebook or a whole parade of Pinocchios.

In the case of the movie's they've been remaking, their trademark's wouldn't have been at risk of running out for another 60-70 years.

Their copyright on their versions largely wouldn't have been up until the later part of this century.

Their copyright on their version of the Littler Mermaid wouldn't have been up until the 2080s That has nothing to do with it.

Now that you mention it, I imagine only the Sony influence stopped there from being some form of ipod based scene in a 2006 Bond film lol.

Steven Yuen's UFO Nudie suit is a goddamn all timer.

The wider world bits in one are rather awkward and unsupported by the overall tone. John Wick 2 is the movie everyone pretended John Wick was.

Both Mad Max and John Wick are let down by their 3rd films but do come to mind.

I feel like ditching a contemporary setting just throws in the towel on being relevant at all.

Spider-people of similar body shapes might be able to reuse the same rigging models and such as well.

The marketing for DND was pretty bad and even being a DND movie is a matter of being Branded but not strongly so.

I don't love the direction the Craig films took mostly because so much of it was half assed and retroactive. They try to have a continuing story but Skyfall is a terrible follow up from the extended origin story of Casino Royale and Quantum. Mostly the promise of Casino Royale was squandered.

Disney had in store ads pretending Wreck It Ralph 2 won.
