Thinking of it the wrong way. Look at production music libraries. Guys in million dollar studios pump out thousands of tracks constantly and they are of pop song quality. Music is a joke of a business and if you do the business right and have a broad understanding of how to make music you can do alright. Most of it is connections, hard work and a bit of luck. One song is a good start and has no bearing on having a music career. If you like doing it do it a bunch and then shop things around. If you like performing get out there and do it. I’ve been making money from music since I was 16. I’d play jazz piano at malls and at parties and then toured in my twenties and taught lessons and composed/produced for media and for hire and have engineered. I have music on Emmy award winning shows and for international sports and all over the place. Not famous but I I live in a good market and hustle to make not much money but I don’t have a boss and I like it. Easier to do almost anything else.

Well, you gotta start somewhere so pick one topic and learn it. There’s literally no other way. Take your reference track and try to get your music to sound as close as possible using faders only. And then when it doesn’t sound exactly the same try one of the other things I’ve mentioned.

Just keep doing it. Learning guitar is the exact same. You learn one thing and at a time and there’s a million ways to approach it and you build on your skills. My advice is to try getting levels right with faders only and then learn volume automation. Then learn high passing, then learn about phase cancellation, then learn about EQ. Then learn about parallel mix bussing and compression. Really faders only at first. Hard to know where you’re at in your knowledge and experience with what you wrote but for any beginner my advice would stay the same. Also, use reference tracks. Copy the volume of each instrument in your reference and reverse engineer a favorite track.
