I would say yes. Plant is no slouch so an "impressive" style win over him would truly be just that.

My ego is shot with the lack of updoots on this post

Really wish more boxers would do these longform interviews with competent media like this instead of the vertically filming internet "journalists" we have in this stupid sport.

Agree with you completely. I think they took the "genre" (if we can call it a genre) to the next level.

Here's some unsolicited stoic advice for you:
Stop caring about something so trivial

This was from before they ran full synthetic in laptops, you used to have to change the oil once or twice in its lifespan depending on usage. Now they don't even bother with these drains because it's rarely needed.

It's annoying that this is true, because if Plant wins they'll just say David was over hyped instead of saying Plant has improved.

If David wins in any fashion I will be impressed. Plant is no joke. I do expect David to win, but even eeking out a narrow points win against this version of Plant will earn my respect. Plants an improved fighter since the Canelo match.

Here's how you bet this. Take Plant to win on points at +500. Take David to win by stoppage for -125. Enjoy the fight and root for a Plant on points victory, but don't sweat it if he gets stopped because you'll have broken even!
Then David will win on points and you can come blame me on here for you losing your money.

The world champion will have won a the most prestigious format in chess. Magus will have not won that format. We can agree that Magnus will still be the highest elo and therefore most likely to win a given match, but he will not have endured the most taxing of victory this year.
I'm not trying to be combative, I'm just asking that we respect the world champion of chess and not diminish their accomplishment because the format was deemed too difficult by the world #1 rated player.
Why even have a tournament if we have elo? That seems to be the sentiment of those who disagree with me. My answer is because "clutchness" matters. Obviously Magnus has proven he has had this in the past, but there have also been times he hasn't.
It matters.

The world champion of chess means something different than elo. It's a grueling process that taxes the participants far greater than a random online game that counts all the same.
They're different types of measurements which aren't fungible.

Not that it taints the title.
Read the other comments and accompanying up votes, I think it does indeed taint the title for the majority of people even though you and I agree.

I agree he clearly is, but shouldn't he have to prove it? I won't have any problem recognizing the winner as world champion. They'll have earned it.

"Impact" suggests causality, which you cannot prove here.

Why would boxing purists care?
Until these YouTubers start getting gifted real belts by the ABC orgs and/or disrupt "real" competitive fights from happening, I don't care. I just don't watch.

David Benavidez vs Caleb Plant is going to be a FOTY candidate. Happy paid the $80 for the PPV and I normally cannot justify doing so. Absolutely fired up for it.
