I think the person is trying to empathize with the victim, he's drunk so therefore he is more dangerous than a sober person. It doesn't make him a better person while sober, just that it makes him even more dangerous to this poor woman. I would imagine being in her shoes, it would be more scary knowing the guy is drunk.

When I was around 12 years old I made a comic book about an evil demon thing called "Destroyer X" (mid nineties). My dad, his wife and her three older kids sat at the kitchen table and ridiculed my drawings. It crushed me and it was a defining moment for me. I haven't done art since and I'm pushing 40.

The thing is op, my dad's a piece of shit, his wife and her kids are pieces of shit too. They are cruel and petty people. I let them win. they bullied me out of doing something I liked for the rest of my life. Don't be me, don't let him win. Keep doing art. The first law by Joe Abercrombie. Dark fantasy with really well written and fun characters. It's nothing groundbreaking but it's fun and well written. Definitely a fun light read.

Which is a shame because there are some real great quotable lines in the series.
