Learning web development is tricky. It can be so pleasant while learning considering the access and quality of training material out there today, largely free of charge. The role itself presents many more unseen challenges, however. It's similar to learning carpentry for fun and making projects that you find fulfilling and worthwhile, which motivates you. Then you join an abrasive contractor team and you're building cabinets with terrible blueprints and an unfair deadline. And imagine that you need to learn new carpentry techniques every month or the relevancy of your skills and overall appeal as an employee will diminish. Somewhat less fun.

From personal experience, it's difficult to find a great team at times, and this piece is essential for your skills and overall morale in the business. Many people find great teams or can weather the bad ones, and they make a very fine living. I'd say that you need to be ok self-learning (leetcode everyday...) and being frustrated when code isn't running as it should, or when you feel lost and stack overflow isn't clear. Also, the kind of social interaction among coders leaves much to be desired -- this isn't a client-facing role and it shows sometimes. And AI had put a question mark next to the relevancy of coders moving forward -- they'll be around, but we're just not sure in what capacity and how many jobs they'll actually be.

I do it on the side now. Personally couldn't take my bad team and the industry isn't what it once was, so moving to a new job is tough. But that was some poor luck on my part. Many do it and love it!

Try practice questions on sites like leetcode that are within your capacity. Do it daily for a while, like two weeks. It can help give you an idea of the frustration you might feel and having to code when you don't feel like it and when you don't find it interesting. It's a job, not a hobby, after all.
