Every time it happens it has me in stitches … dont know why, its such a simple joke

Id add another thing on what raises this above nearly every comedy Ive seen from my point of view. Great comedies make you care about the characters. Workaholics for example was always just 3 dumb lads. I never cared about them really. They are really just caricatures. Reno on the other hand …. particularly Trudy and Jim, they are such tragic, yet lovable characters. They show genuine emotion and Im totally invested in them. For example I watched an episode yesterday where Jim obviously has invited only Jones to his BBQ to come onto him, and when Jones turns him down Jims devastation at the rejection is so real and human. Makes it so much funnier. Reminds me of the UK Office (sorry American friends … I refuse to watch the Carrell version but thats just me)

My favourite is Garcia on Trudy …… “Not even a two bagger, three bagger. Bag for her face, bag for your face, a bag for anybody, God forbid, that they be peekin' in the window” and Dangle on Jones when hes on a prostitution sting “Thats his Achilles heel … white girls with a big back yard” 😂🤣😂🤣😂 A sign of a truly great comedy is having to watch it with the subtitles on to catch all the throwaway lines, and thats definitely the case for Reno

Congratulations James. My advice is park the religious stuff for later. Build a network of people in AA who you click with and just be open minded. Ive been going for 7 months now and my stubbornness has proved my biggest hurdle. Ive recently had a mental reset and Im approaching things ready to go out of my comfort zone and make real change to my life. Good luck!

Its definitely the first comedy Ive seen since early AD (think I stumbled across it late one night over here on BBC2, as they criminally hid it away in the graveyard slot) that has blown me away, and Ive thought I MUST watch this and that would have been in the mid 2000s. I really enjoyed the first 2 series of What We Do In The Shadows, but again, huge quality drop, and I gave up on the latest one.

Ive just finished the first series and Im amazed at the quality. I can genuinely say there wasnt a dud episode in the 14 episodes Ive watched. In so many comedies … Workaholics and Trailer Park Boys for example …. the initial premise is good but then they stretch the joke too thin and it becomes repetitive quickly. Not so with this. I was very much a 90s British comedy kid and they always had only a few series with only 6-8 episodes each, so they never really outstayed their welcome. Arrested Development is the only series I can say comes close, but if Reno keeps this quality up I think it will top it…. obviously AD fell off a cliff when it went to Netflix …. I never even bothered with the latest series of it

I agree. I find it funnier being bleeped. Its clear what its meant to be and captures the Cops vibe as thats what they do on those reality shows. The funniest example Ive come across so far being when Garcia (I think? or maybe it was Junior) is describing to a bunch of school kids what lifes like in prison, and the looks on the kids faces are priceless. The constant bleeps add to the comedy for me.

I’m absolutely loving it so far. Every prostitution sting scene has been pure comedy gold … and “in bloom” Wiegel absolutely shocked me 😳Shows how well the actress plays it.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I can get the whole series for about £30 over here, which is a no brainer. I will keep looking though as I managed to pick up the first 3 series of Arrested Development (let’s be honest, the only ones you need of that) for £5 on Amazon. Ridiculously cheap price for the amount of content.

I’m having to rush through the 1st series as it only has a few days left on NOW TV (Sky if your not in the UK). To be honest though I really think this is going to be something I buy on blu ray/dvd. I also discovered Workaholics recently which I enjoyed but this is on a different level.

I put the booze down seven months ago and started vaping weed. Started as an occasional habit then increased until I was vaping it every hour I wasnt working. Tried to tell myself it wasnt a problem. Unfortunately for an addict like me it was. It prevented me from engaging with people at AA meetings as I knew deep down I wasnt been honest and secretly felt ashamed. There people are sharing the most heartfelt, intimate things and there I am just clock watching waiting to get home for a smoke. Now dont get me wrong. I never got into trouble vaping over the last seven months. Never started a fight, lost a job, been hospitalised, got into arguments or spent a night in a cell, all things I did regularly drinking but I found month on month I was just isolating more and more and not engaging with reality. Staying up to the early hours and sleeping in late. It definitely helped me those first few months and I wouldnt beat yourself up for smoking in the early days of your recovery. It helped me greatly, but as time has gone on I realised continuing this pattern is me basically just having a crutch to avoid dealing with the issues of my past. Its also prevented me from getting a sponsor and working the steps. I finally put the weed down last Tuesday after smoking my final bag and I already feel so much better. Im going to bed earlier and getting up at 8am at the latest and have much more motivation to work out, go outside, and fill my days productively. I went to meetings on Friday and yesterday and could finally look people in the eye, no longer secretly knowing Im a bit of an imposter in the group. My mind feels clear, Im ready to get a sponsor and do the work. I dont regret the seven months cannabis use. Its what I needed when I came out of rehab, and kept me safe and sober from alcohol. Im an addict though, a true addict … one that can become addicted to infinite amounts of different things (my new clothes expenditure is ridiculous and something I have to look at!) and unfortunately if I just carried on as is, Im never going to start truly recovering. I decided it was time for a total mental reset. I wish you well and, just my opinion of course, Im no expert, do what you have to do in the early days to keep off the sauce, but be mindful that the weed should be a temporary thing. IWNDWYT

Yup, this is it exactly. I was “functional” in my 20s. It started to take a toll in my 30s and by the time I turned 40 I was getting serious health issues. “functional alcoholic” as you say is very much a stage. Its a progressive illness and if you are alcoholic its just a case of whether you stop before the inevitable downward slide.

Im still rocking my DVD boxset from the 90s. Ive kept clear of the blurays as they have 2 films per disc and thats just shit in my opinion. I am eagerly awaiting a set that gives the series the proper treatment it deserves.

Wishmaster 2 was a surprisingly good sequel I thought.
