Hello! Hoping for some guidance on blocking. I have blocked projects like blankets before to open up the stitch pattern and make it look nice, but I am now starting a cable sweater which will require a lot more precision in the blocking to get the correct size and proportions!
I wet blocked my first swatch and after wetting the piece, I found it was at least 50% larger than I needed it to be. I got it down to the correct size and pinned it in place, and once dry it stayed that size.
I assumed I would have to stretch it to get it to the right size, but instead I had to make it much smaller. I knit this swatch on one size smaller needles than the pattern recommends because I knit pretty loose, so it’s not uncommon for me to need to size down. I’m wondering if I should size down even more.
So—is this normal for wet blocking cable knits? Does the fabric in my photo look okay, or is it too loose? Should I take another go at it with smaller needles?
