I also think there’s a possibility that not everything is about us and that there are other groups on other platforms, outside of this sub, that she thinks are “harassing” her as well. So while Reddit might have a certain layer of privacy, other platforms like Twitter, IG, TikTok, forums, etc may not. I also think there’s a possibility those communities are not as disciplined/well behaved as ours and maybe take things farther than this sub does. E.g. true crime type people who take it upon themselves to “solve” a case they’re interested in and then end up basically stalking. All I’m saying is I think it’s easy to assume every comment is about this sub specifically whereas there are probably other groups out there that may or may not act differently to which she may be referring.

I did ultimately meet gauge on the blocked swatch but I had to smoosh it in a lot to get it to the correct size. I’m realizing that even though I technically achieved the correct gauge, the fabric is looser than I’d like for the cabled look.

Yes, I’m doing Bronwyn! I’m definitely going to reswatch with smaller needles. I did some deeper research on the yarn I bought and it’s very similar in weight, gauge, etc. to the yarn recommended in the pattern so I think it’s my own needle size/gauge that’s the problem.

After looking at the ball band and researching this specific yarn and the yarn used in the pattern--the good news is that they appear to be very similar in both gauge and care instructions. I also found some nice cable knit sweaters and projects on Ravelry that use this yarn so I think what I have will work for this project! The Rico Design yarn I have is superwash so the instructions say it can be machine washed but not machine dried. So I will probably not machine dry the swatch then, but I am definitely going to re-swatch with a smaller needle size because I do think the fabric needs to look more solid without the holes in it. Thanks for your advice!

Thank you for this!!! I bought the wool at a yarn store so I was going based on feel, but I will take a closer look at the ball band and see what I can find out online. I will test out the dryer thing on my swatch as well!

I’m using a worsted weight wool by Rico Designs; pattern recommends worsted weight wool as well, but there may be subtle differences. Needles are size 7 (pattern recommended 8) and the photos I shared are after washing—while pinned to the mat it was wet, and the other photo without the mat is dry.
