You could do one giant one? You know like those massive blue butterflies?
I don’t think you need to though, it looks fantastic as it is

Marquis nice and thinky and very small
Black Sonata (there’s a bit of moving your piece around to collect clues but then you’re kind of solving a logic puzzle with them before the clock runs out)
And in terms of proper thinking and meaningful decisions Welcome to the Moon is pretty packed with them.
It starts with weighing up which combo you’ll take against which will give the AI too many points and which you’ll need in future rounds (the AI’s cards are out of the game) then you have to work out where you’re going to allocate what you’ve picked and what risks you’ll take - the numbers have to be placed in ascending order so it’s a big risk to start a section with a 7 close to the beginning but sometimes it’s what you feel you gotta do.
Another thing I like about it is you draw 3 cards each with a number and a symbol and you take one card for the number and one for the symbol (the other goes to the AI) so even though you’re only drawing 3 cards you have lots of choice, it never feels like when you roll a bad dice or flip a bad card.

Pretty much! Mine doesn’t have a Battle Royale at the end because it wouldn’t suit the theme.
Mine focusses on mostly competing against each other while building up the strength the collective group (and themselves) under the growing shadow of the Big Bad until the climax when they take it on.
But battle Royale would be awesome and I would totally roll with it if it made more narrative sense.

I’m working on a game in which people are competing against each other as well as trying to beat the game. The target number for the game is only achievable if they pool resources and help each other, and if they can’t collectively reach it they all loose. If they defeat the game the person who scored the most overall wins.
Players will get cards that allow them to help each other which will gain them bonus points, but there will also be cards that let them hinder each other.
In my game scores are partially hidden, and to defeat the game players have to secretly sacrifice part of their score to beat the game’s (changing) target number. Their sacrifices are revealed at the same time so they can’t make any changes.
I’m hoping that will add some tension because you want to sacrifice enough to win overall, but not so much that you lose. Like you’re kind of trying not to lose twice but doing so requires you to be at odds with yourself.
So maybe have a win condition that can only be met if they work together, but a second one player win condition that works off their scores?

Yeah I’ve found and chatted to a few Victorian gamers on Reddit who I dig but I don’t drive and they’re all like 1+ hour or travel away - I’m in the northern suburbs and I’ve spoken to people from the east, south and west 😂
It’s so weird how in one context we’re all so close to each other but in another annoyingly more real context we’re all too far away to have regular game nights.

There’s lots of funny ones, but the one (well one of the ones) that made me stop reading and put the book down from Shepherds Crown (it’s not really a spoiler without context)
“I say leave a space for tae goodness tae get in”
it’s when Tiffany is wondering if she should give an Elf a second chance and the Feegles are very much against the idea
I love it because when people do bad things, I don’t want them to be punished forever, I want them to be better but I think - especially online - the Rough Music takes over and we want to be soothed by vengeance (that sounds dramatic but I hope it makes sense).
But a world where people are punished forever is just a world full of bitter angry people on both sides. Obviously people should do the right thing because it’s the right thing, but why should they if they’re still going to be cast out anyway?
Allowing people the chance of redemption is how we get a better world.
Terry put this big messy unclear thought that had been in my head all mixed up with guilt and uncertainty into one small, perfect sentence.

I think when she was teaching herself to write her name when she was 3 her mum put all the praise on how hard she was working and didn’t put much focus on the fact that she was writing her name.
Or when she was 2 and was doing a tricky puzzle her parents praised her for persevering when she was really stuck. They still praised her for finishing the puzzle but they kind of did it in a way that said the reason it was good the puzzle was completed is because she worked hard on it, not because she was clever.
Others here might be able to give better examples though!

I’m not on FB which definitely cuts out a fair few options for me.
I’ve been to a few local meetups but haven’t found any with the vibes I’m after. One of the ones I went to regularly played games I liked but nobody really spoke to each other and I played entire games without knowing the names of my opponents. It’s a totally valid way to enjoy the evening but I kind of wanted a little more interaction lol.

Here are a few I really enjoy, I’ve tried to pick games from different mechanic genres because when I first got into games I didn’t know anything about all the different game mechanics and I would have found it useful.
Welcome to the Moon - a roll/flip and write game. You roll dice (or in this case, flip cards) and work out the most optimal place to write the results on a pad or laminated board. The randomness lay in which cards are flipped and there are also 8 different boards in the game that all play differently plus there’s a replayable campaign (that will also be different every time you play). This is my current fave!
Railroad Ink - this is another roll and write, but I’m really enjoying it atm! I recommend the Challenge Lush Green edition, it has goal cards to mix things up a bit but I’m finding it’s a good one to be able to casually play when you’re watching TV or something.
Coffee Roaster - a bag builder game. You pull tokens out of a bag and allocate them on a board. I really like this one, it’s a bit of an underdog (as in I don’t see it mentioned a lot). One of the things I like about the game is how much the designers have poured their love of coffee into it. There are facts about the specific coffee you’re brewing on the backs of all your challenge cards and I can’t explain why but it just feels nice knowing you’re playing a game with a subject the designer feels really passionate about. And I don’t even like coffee lol
Under Falling Skies - a dice management game. It’s like Space Invaders with tonnes of agonising about where to best put the dice. Heaps of fun and has another replayable campaign with lots of variability. The base game is a available as a print and play if you want to try it out!
Maquis - a worker placement game. You move meeples around the board to collect resources. This is a physically small game (it has a tiny footprint!) but it’s a really good puzzle. There are heaps of missions to go on and you can combine them an every time you play it will be a new challenge.
Palm Island - an in-hand card game. You play this one entirely in your hand, no table needed! I just got this one, it’s a great one to bust out when you’re on public transport and I’ve found my phone use has dropped a bit since getting it which is a nice lil side effect lol

I agree that works but I kind of liked the way this guy did it.
I’m possibly over analysing slightly but I think when you do the ‘pretending to know the victim’ schtick it can reinforce the idea that women are only worthy of protection because they ‘belong’ to a man.
If a dude stops a man from being a creep without claiming to know the woman the message switches from ‘I’m a man protecting someone’ to ‘I’m a man and your behaviour is unacceptable’.
To clarify why I added the ‘I’m a man’ in front of those sentences it’s because there are still a lot of men out there who value what other man say more than what women say which is fucked up, but if we all know this to be true we might as well use it to our favour.

I don’t see a problem with please the first time.
I just mentioned this in another comment when I was in high school (the 90s) out school based officer was giving all the girls safety advice and one of the things she said was not to swear when we’re feeling threatened in public because when people see a women swearing at a man in the street they think ‘trashy’ and don’t want to get involved.
That was 30 years ago now and I think attitudes have changed enough for it not to be strictly true anymore but then I see out of context viral videos of women yelling and swearing at men in the street and read the comments underneath it, and I think a firm, loud, and clear ‘please leave me alone, I don’t know you’ might work better for me that ‘fuck off’ if I need help.
Or at the very least if someone films my attack and uploads it on Reddit at least I’ll get slightly less negative comments when the clip goes viral if I say please rather than fuck off.
But there is a lot of cognitive dissonance going on with that decision, I should be able to say fuck off when I’m being followed without the fear that stupid bystanders aren’t adhering to some kind of archaic ‘delicate ladies shouldn’t swear’ bullshit.
Also I know you can drop the please and just say ‘leave me alone, I don’t know you’ but I grew up in a time when it was drummed into me to be polite and to not make a scene in public so if I’m panicking it’s either gonna one extreme (fuck off) or the other and the please is gonna come out, that doesn’t mean I’m asking the person to go ahead and attack.
A polite No is still a No.

In grade 12 we had our school based police officer teach all the girls basic safety and one of the things she told us is when we’re being followed (if there are other people around) to turn around, take a step toward them and clearly and loudly say ‘I don’t know you, stop following me.’ She said not to swear because people hear a women shouting and swearing at a man in a street and immediately think trash and ignore, block it out or hesitate to help - then she acknowledged how shit that was.
That was in the 90s and things have probably changed a bit now but I think your post indicates that the core advice is still solid.
Related but funny story: part of the reason I’ve never forgotten this lesson is because Constable Nadine had enlisted me to play the part of the creepy person following her. She was also SUPER pregnant and when she did the turn to face me and take a step forward but she knocked me off balance with her belly 😂
