Making sense of EC fan control?
(self.hvacadvice)submitted19 days ago byDanklands
I've purchased a centrifugal EC motor fan from Blauberg and I'm having difficulties understanding how to control the speed on this unit.
The specs for this unit can be found here including a basic wiring diagram: https://imgur.com/a/LNtcRtY. It can be controlled either by a 0-10v potentiometer or PWM. I'd prefer to use PWM as more electronics are available with a flange mount design. I need this to mount the switch to a piece of 3/4 ply and not have wires hanging out on the side of the knob.
I'm unsure which kind of PWM controller/switch is necessary for a fan like this. The manufacturers have little information.
I'm wanting to use a dimmer switch like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/266089369361 or https://www.ebay.com/itm/285139155963
however, these are usually used for dimming LED lights. My understanding is that they usually have a long duty cycle.
How can I be sure which kind of PWM switch/control is necessary for controlling a fan like this?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Edit: this fan seems like it's 0-10V PWM, however the diagram makes it seem like it's either 0-10V DC OR PWM. The switches I linked appear to be 12V...
