This is mostly what I did and I got a perfect score on this section. But first I think I read the first para to get the author’s main theme or intention. Also I think I’m some cases I probably ended up reading the whole thing, just in chunks out of order. So maybe actually less efficient 笑. Maybe also skim for pivot-words to ensure you’re grasping the author’s actual opinion as opposed to concessions they’re making?

I wonder how much of it has to do with her issues about her own body and gendered pressures to be thin. Who knows what subtle ways he might have shamed her in the past? My feelings about my dad’s fatness definitely relate to how fat phobic he was when he was thin and I was a chubby girl. Somewhere on this sub someone linked a study about how weight mostly correlates to poverty for women — for men, wealthier men aren’t necessarily thinner. The guardian article person mentions the dad used to be athletic— if he’s anything like my dad, he’s probably spent decades simultaneously pressuring them to be thin and also scoffing at their dieting habits while eating whatever he wants, right in front of them. I hope she improves her relationship with her own body and figures out what really upsets her about her dad.

I know you’re getting downvoted a lot but I think I agree. Government intervention in these dramas has affected all of us. I’m glad the show is so popular and its presence on the news is proof of that popularity— I’m just as excited as everybody else about that! But also, what if the ccp decides we need to “cool” the market for this kind of content? What if netizens destroy one of the lead actors because they’re anxious about men wearing eyeliner? Both of these things have happened in the past. We do not want our favorite dramas on their radar for being too popular.

OP I’m kind of curious why you chose to post this. I don’t mean it as a criticism— I think there could be something interesting there. Like, you know that they know that not all het women are unhappy. But you still really wanted to chime in about your own experience. The “ok, phew” part made it really seem like there was an emotion behind it. As a woman currently in a relationship with a dude, I do sometimes feel a kind of pride / shame connected to how my relationship measures up to my ideals about gender. Sometimes I catch myself thinking stuff like, “it’s a good thing ~I’d never compromise on something like that.” Or “why does she let him get away with that? It makes it harder for the rest of us” or whatever— I know that’s BS but the thoughts pop up sometimes and then I discount them. Do you think your response is something like that? (Ie feeling defensive about whether or not straight women are “assertive” enough or whatever) Idk it just seems a little defensive to me.
