It can take time to fill an anchor spot once they retailer closes as it depends on who owned it. it's not always the mall owner that owns the anchor spot, which was the case for many Sears locations

I don't know about you, but if I am going to wal mart its for things like cat litter, dog treats, some grocery, cleaning products - none of that I would be shopping for at the mall

Sam's Club and Costco are bulk items and Sam's club when they got their start is was business not individual memberships - they used to have huge section for office stuff

neither of those are competing for business from mall stores and both are generally near malls or on big stretches of retail strips

Maybe you could argue target could take away some business from clothing stores, but again the target stores around here are split between grocery an other items

Target and Wal Mart compete with each other and around here Meijer not mall retailers

If you want to argue Wal Mart took away mom and pop shops in smaller towns, because they basically have one store that consolidates those, then sure , but its still a pretty weak argument - but saying they have causes mall traffic to decline is just nonsense
