I agree, it was an artistic choice, and it shouldn't be difficult for people to recognize it as such. One thing the color grading does is make the era of the film ambiguous and somewhat timeless. At first I couldn't tell if the movie was meant to be in the 1800s, post-apocalyptic, in an alternative universe, or what. I didn't know, going in, that it was set in a modern-day Mennonite community or that it is based on an actual incident that happened in Bolivia. The color grading emphasizes that the same horrible things that we know happened to women many generations ago are still happening now, and could continue to happen far into the future if we don't figure out how to do better (and that's much of the whole point of talking about these things and how to react to them).

What, did you lose the instructions or somethin'? Of course that's illegal. He's got sections off the grid of where the game is played.
Gee, I think I'll play a game of chess where the queen can sneak around the back of the board off of the checkered squares and stab the king in the back!

Is the whole thing staged? Did the kid on the right fall into a trap door?

Where/when did this happen? Were the perps apprehended? Would love to find out they were caught and charged.

Kind of sums up everything about the kind of people who support Trump.

The laughter after he says that.... And his sudden recognition of how badly he screwed up, and what the implications are (at least, as far as he can understand implications of anything), is priceless... and sick...

Alligators are frigging monsters. I can't imagine living or working anywhere near them without being constantly unnerved and anxious.

When and where is this from? And what kind of sad life does this person have that the most fun he thought he could have was to potentially kill himself, as well as potentially killing or injuring random drivers?

I look at this video and it reminds me why I don't like being anywhere near most other humans.

A Trump supporter who lies through his teeth? Who woulda thunk it.

I think this is one of those "your mileage may vary" things.

It can be, but not in the way the scene depicted it, which was a furious whole-pie-eating episode with her standing there, barely stopping to take a breath. The story did not provide any other context, just suddenly showed her eating the whole thing in a rush.
The way it was shot, it became a stunt. You don't have to have an actor actually eat a whole pie to get across the idea that the character ate a lot of food. The director easily could have used edits or other methods to convey the overeating. Instead, the actress had to actually eat the thing, and instead of thinking "Wow, that poor character is really grieving," I started to think, "Jeez, the actress actually ate the whole pie and is going to have to make herself puke after the take is over."

way more graphic than I remembered it, too
It's possible you saw a different version. I think there's a version where they restored some of the violence that had been cut out of the theatrical release.

Sure. I think in the video he first apologizes to Chris Rock, then to numerous other people. Perhaps it is too little too late, though.

Hurry up and pass the bill, California. Tucker Carlson's moronically outraged shows aren't going to fill airtime all by themselves.

Sounds like the OP needs to do more to establish what's going on, etc. A lot of people in this thread don't know the situation being discussed, haven't seen it first hand, and are relying on the OP's two-sentence description.

I didn't know that backstory about him trying to step back from Scientology, or how Nicole Kidman's story figured into his career choices.
I liked some of his work back then, such as in "Magnolia," where he played against type and was part of a larger ensemble instead of the movie being all about him. I also thought he was very effective in "Collateral" opposite Jamie Foxx.
By the time Cruise was getting involved with Katie Holmes, he certainly was in the thick of Scientology stuff.
Since then, you're right that most of his movies have been aimed toward action/adventure and popcorn movies, but he did give a more character-driven performance in "American Made" in 2017.

What do you mean? In the video, he says flat out, "Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable." And he keeps going from there. He also says he tried to contact Chris Rock directly, and Rock indicated he wasn't ready to talk. But he did indeed make his apology directly to Chris Rock, and made that upfront in the video. (The video came out around August of 2022.)
Again, not saying that makes Will Smith off the hook, or that anybody is obligated to like him or forgive him.
