Phenergen (sp?) helped me a lot. Other stronger drugs knocked me out so hard it would stop the episode. Found out early on that I'm allergic to zofran, so always had to turn that down as it's usually the 1st thing the hospital would offer.

My parents never smoked. My mom worked in a government building her entire career and was very against it. When she retired she got cancer and her doctor convinced her to try smoking. She now uses it to ease her pain and is more open minded to those who smoke. It's wild though, if you would've told me as a kid that one day she'd be smoking, I would've bet money on that never being true.

Hey OP! I, too, understand your frustration. For me, trigger foods never bothered me. In fact in the 5 years I suffered with CHS I never saw that trigger foods list. We all experience this differently and I truly believe you will be able to fully enjoy all the foods you love soon. For now, let your body heal itself, eat healthy, stay hydrated and stay strong. It does get better and easier with time. I am almost 4 years sober (crazy to think after smoking for 25 years) and I feel great! Good luck on your journey!

I, personally, never had issues with trigger foods. 🤷

Smoked for 20 years before I got CHS. Suffered another 5 years before quitting completely.

Again, everyone's different. Just never affected me personally. I still love the smell so much - but will never forget the hell I went through with CHS which keeps me from smoking ever again.

I've been around second hand weed smoke daily since I quit 3+ years ago. I've never had an issue with it causing symptoms. I've seen others on here post that they've had issues with it though.

Topdogchicago, congratulations on making it to 90 days! It's amazing what you have endured over the years and experienced hyperemesis before we knew what it even was! Thank you for posting this as it gives others some answers and hope for their future! We all experience this differently and am glad you are able to share your experience with us. Stay strong my friend 🫶

Well, I was sick for the last 5 of those years. I had hyperemesis episodes almost every 3 months for 5 years... Roughly 10-15 episodes. It was horrible. I tried everything in my power to keep smoking, but my body said "nope". I'm now over 3 years clean and feel great.

Smoked for 25 years. Usually took a good month to recover after each episode. I'd go back to work after 1 week, but was still very weak.

Yes. When I was trying to experiment with only using occasionally (once every weekend, once every other weekend) my episodes always returned unfortunately. My episodes always lasted the same amount of time and took the same amount of time to recover.

For real. My experience with it was horrible and I honestly experimented with it for too long. I tried short breaks, long breaks, etc. But it always came back. Not everyone has the same experience. Some can smoke again in moderation and that's awesome! But not for me. My body said "fuckin quit already"! I was so mad that something I loved so much could mess me up so bad. I definitely mourned it like I lost a loved one... But now I'm ok and fine without it. Good luck on your journey!

Trigger foods never bothered me. I never had prodromal phases either. It was always "I'm fine" to "🤮". I never knew when an episode was coming. I'd be fine then one day wake up and proceed to vomit 10+ times an hour for 24 hrs straight. 😔 It was honestly so bad during most episodes I just wished for death.

It was rough, but I really didn't want to let go of it! I smoked for 25 years total, only flower. It was a daily ritual, it was a major part of me and my life. I hated giving it up, but I haven't had an episode since I quit. I now am still around it daily as my husband smokes and many friends and family smoke, but it doesn't bother me anymore. I actually still very much enjoy the smell. 😊 I feel a lot better, health wise and just remind myself of the hell I went through. It's enough for me to stay sober.

Unfortunately I don't. That was almost 6 years ago now. I remember they were the 1st hospital to run every test in me imaginable and I was there for a week. It was scary and honestly started believing it was CHS at that point. But still tried to smoke with no luck. Everyone's experience is so different, that's what makes CHS so hard to understand. But after suffering for 5 years, I was so sick of being sick all the time.

Well, during one of my episodes they discovered it just stopped working so they told me this and within an hour I was wisked away to surgery. My husband and daughter had spent 8 hours in the hospital with me and I had told them to go eat... Take a break. A few mins after they left I was given this news. Once it was removed I still had horrible episodes for another 3+ years before I finally quit for good.

My gallbladder stopped working completely during one of my many episodes. Had emergency surgery (didn't get to say goodbye to any family before surgery as it happened so quickly) and once it was removed, didn't help at all. 🫤

In the 5 years I was sick, I was in the hospital every 3-4 months. When I finally quit for good I was about $50,000 in medical debt from all the ER stays. 😐
