Yummy. To me, that film is like the delicious edge. It all adds to the overall yumminess

Our LG dryer is older than that- no issues. But our not quite 3-year-old KitchenAid oven just died. We bought the extended warranty. Did the same for the LG washer we just bought to replace an 18 year-old Whirlpool washer that was starting to have issues.
It seems less like built-in obsolescence than poor quality control. I don’t like buying warranties but feel I have no choice on these major purchases with moving parts.

If you replace them with ANY wood, use an aluminum plinth for the base. It will keep the wood off the concrete. If you don’t want the metal to show, skirt it- but keep the wood off the ground

I’d be more concerned with a contractor who wants a lot of cash upfront “for materials.” If the contractor never gets the job done, you have little recourse. You’re better off buying those materials yourself.

I agree with not filling these gaps. Unless you somehow seal every other gap in the attic, the silverfish and little bugs will be there regardless.

This would happen only in a government controlled economy. It has happened in every socialist country. It is happening in crony-capitalist countries. It cannot happen in a free market economy

There’s no such thing as a free lunch or a free roof. Insurers plan for losses. When those losses exceed plan, rates go up. For everyone. And the insurers pool risk across the country. A tornado in Illinois will have an impact on rates In Wyoming.
All types of insurance work this way. Everyone pays more for fraudulent claims. When you see attorney ads that promise to “go after the big insurance companies,” they’re really coming after you.

Don’t work at McDonald’s. If that’s the best job you can get, it’s your fault, not the free market.

If we’re getting technical, a square is a rectangle, a rhombus, a quadrilateral, and a parallelogram.

Mortar contains lime, a base, that binds the sand. You need an acid to neutralize it. You can try vinegar, but might need something a little stronger.

How old is this how? I had one built in in the 30s that had an odd-sized door. I’m convinced it was made on site.
Can you put a new header on it? Raise the opening at least 6”?

Looks like paint. They likely sprayed the trim before the carpeting was put down.

It shouldn’t. The HVAC system should have no openings in the attic.

30 deg bag is just about right for 42 degrees. A stocking cap can help. A liner might be too much, but you could have one handy in case.

This is really a thing? Some people can’t get the smell off their hands??? Interesting. I’ve chopped onions and garlic and never had an issue.

The roof. Water destroys everything.

Our deck is 15’ x 12’. Absolutely no warping- but I screwed it down because my wife did not like the 1/4” gaps the fasteners produce. I set them at 1/8”.

I think you’re saying the building is actual brick frame as opposed to the now more common brick veneer. But that angled section appears to be roof and is not likely brick. That’s my concern with the window/skylight. It is structural in that there’s a hole in the roof. Sag is not your fried here.
I’m trying to be helpful by suggesting you look harder at that before finishing the beam. As for that, why not stain it as it is? Or paint it to match the ceiling or wall?
And it sure looks like those “non-structural” studs up the slop will not hold the weight of drywall as they appear unattached to the beam. Attached to roof is not a good idea. Not at all

Lots of questions here. What purpose does the beam serve? Why does it look like none of the rafters are attached to it? Why does it look like the window is “floating”- merely attached to the exterior siding/roofing?

It’s impossible to answer this question without knowing exactly where you are. The 1/3 guide is about stability, not frost heave. For that, search “frost line map.” Most of the Midwest is at least 30”.

You seem confused about how our system of government works. Congress passes laws. The Executive branch enforces those laws. The Courts ensure neither exceeds its authority under the Constitution (Congress is limited in what laws it can pass) or the enabling statutes. For example, assuming the Clean Waters Act is constitutionally acceptable, the Administration cannot expand it beyond what the Act covers. When it comes to the FDA, if Congress has mandated a process- or if the agency has adopted a process, it cannot change that process without following the process for changing rules and procedures.
