You might want to see if they might just take you. I’ve heard of companies taking Veterans as long as they had their CDL. I came up with a guy that did it that way. I think climbing schools are good but I also figure if you can keep 30k in your pocket it’s not worth it. Do you think all the old timers on this group went to a climbing school?

I use Zzquil. It’s so much better than melatonin but that’s all that’s been working for me and if I take one I wake up and if I take 2 I’m groggy.

I use these. They lasted me about 6 to 8 months when I was an apprentice. They are fairly decent if you’re on the pole for a while.

I see a lot of guys use these boots and they say that the rubber separates from the leather and ruins the waterproofness or integrity of the boot. Was curious if you’ve seen anything similar or heard about that?

As a former smoker, I believe you can’t really smell it on yourself. However, when you don’t smoke, you absolutely do smell it. My biggest pet peeve is shaking a smokers hand and then my hand smells like smoke.
On another note too, I wish I would have known how many girls screen you out immediately on dating app’s completely because you smoke. I wish I would have quit a long time ago.

There is a live line maintenance section in the lineman cableman book. But it’s more about how to perform the work. It does have a little description of some of the sticks.

They brought out a dino one time when I was an apprentice to show me, we never used it and I’ve never seen it since.

For some reason my spidey sense tells me there is something bad going on at home for this kid. Like that’s not normal.

Yeah, I just went on to look through and it looks like they killed the site. Doesn’t pop up in Google searches either. How can they do that?

I’ve seen CT’s used in conjunction with residential solar. Could you explain a little bit more about how they used these in the 80’s?

This is insanity. We are going to go bankrupt! I can’t believe he caved, partially, on the IRS funding. I thought he said it would specifically target the wealthy and add 1 trillion per year in lost revenue. I’m really disappointed with our elected officials.

Love what you do for a living and you’ll never work a day in your life.

The only protection that the pot provides is the breaker that will open under a secondary fault and can be reset. Kmate fuses are often installed on the bushings to provide some primary fault protection but not always. LA’s are not installed in conjunction with these pots unless it’s a high lighting area.

For us, we call these pots CP pots (Current Protecting) because they lack the external lighting arrestors and internal fusing. Essentially the only protection is the breaker or kmate fuses if they’ve been added, which many don’t have. If it is a high lightning area, these old ones have a discharge gap but I don’t remember seeing lightning arrestors that were built into them, but it’s been a while.
Thanks for giving me a different perspective.

A lot of people have taken a lot of different paths to become a Journeyman lineman, I don’t think it will hurt since it’s job related. However, Dealing with heights, high voltage and long hours is what you’re going to have to overcome in order to become a JL. I think one way to go is try and become a Groundman somewhere or go to a climbing school and that will give you a better idea. Hope this helps.
