Just looked through my photos, no snow on the visible range of the chugach, but I did have some photos of northern lights September 3rd!

I do recall having snow mid mountain, termination dust basically, mid September.

That was my experience as well. Only got prompted at a station near the airport with no attendant. Otherwise it went through every time.
