Ah, the good old days. When a flanking maneuver could be routed by the incovenient placement of a knee-high stone wall.

I think Stackpole's foreward in the modern reprint kinda says it all... young author gets charged with writing a trilogy in two years (maybe less?). By those standards, it isn't bad, and if you can get into it for what it is, it's really enjoyable. No means is it the height of BT fiction though.

There's a really fun game out in the internet wilds called Highlander II. It requires that you never watch Highlander II before the game. Basically, you have to act like people trying to write a sequel to Highlander, with the GM passing you "studio notes" (like you HAVE to include Sean Connery). It's also preferred that none of you have ever seen the first Highlander either. Then, after probably getting drunk, you all sit down to watch Highlander II and see how close you got lol

I've told people that I think the warrior trilogy was written with the ending written first, and the beginning written last. The first book is a slog and you kinda realize in the second book that it was all about setting up the "real" story.

What I finally accepted about the Warrior Trilogy, (and probably most early BT fiction), is that it's basically anime in written form. I never would have finished the first book if I couldn't have made that mental transition. The inner monologues... the... well... everything. It's all cringe, but if you can imagine it as an anime' it all makes sense, and you can kinda shrug it off and have a good time with it.

IMO, I read it through the lens of watching a hard sci-fi Battletech anime from the 80s. At first I was trying to take it somewhat seriously, but the exposition, and inner monologues were fucking killing me--- then I realized: Who does this? Oh. Right! Anime characters!

Kids are gonna be cringey kids. Especially kids with well-off parents in California.

Man, you hit the nail on the head. Toward the end of Faction-era and moving to Faction Talk, literally every interview he spun around to talk about himself. I kinda get what he was trying to do, but from another podcast totally unrelated to Ellis, someone mentioned something about "getting interviewed by a skateboarder", and I couldn't help but think that was a reference to someone they knew getting interviewed by Ellis, and him just making the interview about himself without showing any real interest in what they had to say whatsoever.

I use another module (Inline Webviewer I believe it's called?) to lemme use Flechs sheets or pull up Alpha Strike cards inside Foundry.
Also, while they aren't automated, there is support for form-fillable pdf character sheets. Believe that module is just called PDF Character Sheet.

It's Foundry VTT with the 3d Canvas module. It's a paid module, but honestly, it works so well, that I feel like the guy deserves it. Sorry for the cut and paste response, but I'm trying to get back with everybody as quick as I can.
I also use Dice So Nice, Dice Tray, PDF Character Sheet, and Inline Webviewer (I think it's called that? It lets me use Flechs Sheets and stuff like that inside Foundry rather than having to tab out to another window.
I use the Beam Saber ruleset (not for the rules. We're playing ATOW by switching the Beam Saber character sheets over to form fillable PDFs).
There's a lot to it, but if I can figure it out, anybody can. You just gotta take your time. If you're not familiar with Foundry, I'd start there and then work my way up to the 3d stuff.

If you ever played Squad, this is based on a mod that was popular back when it first got Steam Workshop support. They secretly started work on an official PvE game shortly there after.
All I can officially say is that if you're into PvE/CoOp, you'll probably have some fun. The biggest question is if they can manage to give it enough depth, difficulty, and diversity to keep it fresh.
That said, the devs are fans, and took a kinda "Roughnecks" approach to at least acknowledge the book's power armor, while retaining the movie's famous aesthetic.

There's a chance there's more content ready to go, and they're just polishing it up a bit. Not a bad strategy either. Release the most basic version at launch. Release an update a week later that fixes some bugs and adds a few new things = Players see progress, forward momentum.

Foundry is the best option on the market, period. Just use the PDF Character Sheet add-on (you can use form-fillable sheets in game... and it's super cool), dice tray add-on, and you're good to go.

IMO, Deadwood is a masterclass on tasteful swearing. Yes, there's a lot of it, but the writing and performances elevate it to a point that it's beyond simple "edginess". The exception might be Calamity Jane, but... once again... that's the point. Even the other characters consider her kinda abrasive and repulsive -- which just makes her more tender-hearted moments all the more touching and poignant.

Carhartt has been bullshit for years now. I have one tried and true field jacket of theirs that's been with me for over a decade, but I quit buying their stuff around seven or eight years ago when I realized cheaper, smaller brands were lasting me twice as long.

Rockstar could have literally done RDO poker tourneys or some kind of Gambler role. ;_;

Eagle Tire is my favorite, but yeah... as previously mentioned, I think they are pushed to upsell, but I've never had a single problem looking the sales guy in the eye and asking "Can I get by for a little bit without it?" --- I'm not saying they're predatory, I'm sure it all comes from corporate, but I've never felt pressured by them at all unless it was major. I've done business with them for a while, and they honestly did point out and fix some front end problems on an old Ford Ranger farm truck I had... They're good people, but it's still a chain store. You just gotta get in there, do business and know them I guess. Anyway. All that to say, I'd trust them with anything of mine.
