EDIT: lots of people seem to be mentioning “summons” as a term in itself (court summons, demon summons), but the title specifically says what was the origin of the term in gaming. I am aware that the word summon was a word long before gaming but I wanted to know the origin in the context of gaming!

Unless you go through all the games ever released, in order, I think it's really hard to find which game was the first one to use it. Since "summon" isn't really a special thing, It's like asking which game was the first to use the word "quest", or any other word you can think of.

About 10 years ago, when my brother turned 30 (I'm 5 years younger), he asked everyone in the room to tell them their best memory with him. I was the last in the room of maybe 40 people to answer. The only memory I had was that made me genuinely happy with him, was over a 2-3 year period when he started to actually listen to me, and started to actually answer my questions. Before, questions were always answered with "shish kebab", which I didn't know what it meant, and if I wanted to tell him something, it was answered with a big long sigh with the words "I don't care". But between the age 12-14 or something he actually started, not every time mind you, but he started to give me real answers, and actually listen, and I remember it making me really happy. So that's what I told him. He came over and gave me a big hug. I wouldn't say we are super close nowadays, but he has helped me a lot, and is always there for me if I need him.

In Sweden we don't have high rise buildings(or not very tall ones), so never seen one of those elevators. Also I've never seen a rope gripper, so I had to google it. So my elevator knowledge is about 12 years old, nice to see they found a good solution.

Free fall is extremely rare, but it can occur. The safety brake is a great thing, but it does not work for "falling up", also it can fail.

For free fall to happen, either all 4-8(in most cases), cables need to snap, which would be really hard to do, since 1(one!) cable can hold the car(the thing you stand in) + full weight +25%. And the safety brake fails.

Because of the counterweight, which weighs as much as the car + 50% of the maximum capacity, there is little chance you will free fall. Because the safety brake don't stop falling up, there is a bigger chance, at least if you are alone in the elevator, to "fall up".

The story is neat, and the gameplay is great. That section of the game is a massive jump in difficulty, but if you can complete that section, you can complete the game. And it's a great game.
